Sinossi

“The Preacher of Cedar Mountain” Is a 1917 novel by Ernest Thompson Seton that tells the wonderful story of Jim Hartigan, an extremely good horseman who becomes a preacher to fulfil his mother's dream for him. The majority of the story concerns his various travails and vicissitudes along the road to realising this dream. A masterwork of classic fiction, this volume will appeal to fans of vintage American literature and it is not to be missed by those who have read and enjoyed other works by this author. Ernest Thompson Seton (1860 – 1946) was an English-born Canadian author and wildlife artist who founded the Woodcraft Indians in 1902. He was also among the founding members of the Boy Scouts of America, established in 1910. He wrote profusely on this subject, the most notable of his scouting literature including “The Birch Bark Roll” and the “Boy Scout Handbook”. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this book now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially-commissioned new biography of the author.

Leon's back. Having survived the sweatshop methods of Miss Hagmeyer, his needle-wielding fourth grade teacher at the Classical School, Leon braces himself for fifth grade. He arrives armed with a backpack full of pens and pencils, binders and notebooks . . . plus a rag doll that's the spitting image of Henry Lumpkin, the bully who has Leon in his sights. If the doll works the way it's supposed to, Leon (and his buddies P.W. and Lily-Matisse) won't have to worry about Lumpkin the Pumpkin! Better still, Leon has a fabulous new teacher, Mr. Sparks, who conducts science experiments using that most miraculous of research materials -- the potato chip. And a good thing, too. Mr. Sparks's lab work will come in handy when Leon is forced to take on Alphonse "The Chippopotamus" Cipollini at the annual Chipapalooza! Chip-Off. Once you've sunk your teeth into Leon and the Champion Chip, the hilarious sequel to Leon and the Spitting Image, you'll never eat potato chips the same way again!

“Making an auspicious entry into children’s books, Laden provides a stylish, droll answer to the riddle of what dogs do while their owners sleep.” —Publishers Weekly

“I have a dog. Nothing exotic or special, just an ordinary dog.” Or so this little boy thinks—until one morning, when he opens the door a little early and sees his dog jump out of a limousine. That night, he decides to follow his dog, and that’s when the fun starts, in a nighttime romp around town where he learns what adventures dogs get up to while their humans are fast asleep. A terrific read-aloud and true “comedic gem,” Nina Laden’s story will have everyone captivated by the coolest dog around (Parents’ Choice).

“Laden’s dog characters are especially keenly drawn . . . A whimsical book.” —Kirkus Reviews

“Sophisticated enough for older children and silly enough for younger listeners, this boy-and-his-dog book has a clever text, great illustrations and strong appeal.” —School Library Journal
