Sinossi

The story's protagonist, Lexy Moran, gets to know Caroline Enderby as she is a young lady with a flawless reputation. Her mother watches her like a hawk to guide her inappropriate suitors and protect her from scandals or compromising situations of any sort. The shock comes when Caroline doesn't come home one night. What is more strange to Lexy is that her mother doesn't seem worried about the situation, although it looks like Caroline escaped with an admirer. But how was it possible for a shy girl living in tight discipline to find a man or arrange a marriage? Who is the strange guy coming the next day searching for Caroline, and why is her mother so calm upon the situation? These are the matters for Lexy to investigate.

    Shadows of Villisca
Historical Mystery Novel Inspired by Real Events
In the quiet town of Villisca, Iowa, history never truly sleeps.
Over a century after the infamous 1912 axe murders shocked the nation, investigative researcher Alex Hartman and forensic scholar Dr. Samuel Graves arrive in Villisca chasing rumors of something older and darker than anyone had ever imagined.
When a modern family is found murdered in a chilling copy of the past, their investigation spirals into a tangled web of cryptic journals, forbidden sermons, and a long-forgotten traveling carnival that once passed through town... but did it ever leave?
As Alex and Graves peel back layers of buried truth, they uncover evidence of a blood covenant that links past and present, and a ritual still very much alive. Haunted by warnings left in fragile letters and ancient sermons, they must race to expose the sinister force at the heart of Villisca before they become the next chapter in its bloody legend.
History has teeth. And in Villisca, it's ready to bite again.

Viv just wants work—any work. Well, not quite any work. But she's desperate enough to accept a job offer as personal assistant to Jasper Renner—the rich and mysterious owner of the Renner Tea House—even though odd things happen whenever he's around.

She expects to deal with rich, entitled Melbournians and a full business schedule. Instead, Viv finds herself following Jasper into a strange new world where a murderous madman has been incarcerated in a secret floor at the old Kew Asylum that may or may not exist in the human world as she knows it.

Reality is just as worryingly soft at the old tea house itself, which hides a few too many not-quite-human secrets. In one of the downstairs rooms, there's a little girl who has been a little girl for a suspiciously long time; in the uppermost floor, there are a few windows that show a view that doesn't exist in Melbourne. And then there are the giant cephalopod tentacles that appear from nowhere and disappear again, seemingly at will . . .

Now Viv isn't sure if she's going mad, or if the world itself has gone mad and the lunatic in Kew Asylum is the only sane person she knows.

COLD BURN - A Steve Cline...

When Bruce Claremont quit his job working on a thoroughbred breeding farm and vanished, his sister Corey asks barn manager Steve Cline for help. So Steve slips into Bruce’s world, and the more he learns, the more he suspects that Corey may never see her brother again. Because all is not as it seems in this pastoral setting where secrets and jealousies and obsessions are the norm, and the present seems to be repeating its fiery past. If Steve’s not very careful, he just might get burned . . .
From Publisher's Weekly: Ehrman's knowledge and exposition of life on a horse farm is most impressive and enjoyable.
From Booklist: Ehrman skillfully ratchets up the suspense en route to a surprising conclusion that nonetheless makes perfect sense. That is to say she fully engages the reader, then leaves him or her satisfied. What more could you ask of a mystery?
From The Daily Oakland Press: “COLD BURN is a terrific, engaging novel full of bits of horse breeding arcana, and a more complex and realistic view of life and death - and birth - than can usually be found in the standard mystery novel.”
