Sinossi

Elizabeth Gaskell's 'The Complete Works (Illustrated Edition)' is a collection of the author's most famous novels, short stories, and non-fiction works, showcasing Gaskell's mastery of the Victorian novel form. Known for her realistic portrayal of social issues and strong female characters, Gaskell's works provide a window into the societal norms and struggles of her time. Her writing style is characterized by vivid descriptions, intricate character development, and a keen understanding of human emotions and relationships. This collection is essential reading for anyone interested in Victorian literature and the role of women in society during that era. Elizabeth Gaskell, a prominent Victorian author, drew inspiration from her own experiences as a minister's wife and her observations of the working-class people she encountered. Her compassionate nature and commitment to social justice are evident in her writing, making her a voice for the marginalized and oppressed. Gaskell's unique perspective and empathetic storytelling set her apart as a significant figure in 19th-century literature. I highly recommend 'The Complete Works (Illustrated Edition)' to readers looking to explore the depth and breadth of Elizabeth Gaskell's literary talents. This comprehensive collection offers a rich tapestry of narratives that are both thought-provoking and engaging, making it a valuable addition to any library of classic literature.

THIS AUTUMN'S MUST-HAVE AUTOBIOGRAPHY'A split-second decision is all it takes. A decision that can change the course of a cricket match. Maybe even the course of your life.'In Coming Home, Freddie Flintoff zeroes-in on the crucial moments that made him - some highly celebrated, others less well-known, away from the cameras, but all pivotal in shaping the man he is.As a boy, growing up in Preston, Fred fell in love with the game of cricket. It gave him his route through life; out on the pitch he felt at home. Through his eyes we see him picking up a bat for the first time, his early years on the field; that incredible performance to win the Ashes against the Aussies in 2005; face-downs with rivals; run-ins with the media; the doctors telling him he can't continue to play. On and off the pitch, in and out of the spotlight, Fred tells the whole story. After retiring, Fred thought he'd left the game behind, relaunching himself in the world of entertainment, but following the car crash that turned his life upside down, it was cricket to which he returned.Coming Home is a reflection on a unique life, a story like no other, and a love letter to the game that made him. Honest, open, reflective and funny, like the man himself, this is Freddie Flintoff, in full, in his own words.

Nadeine Asbali would be the first to say that a scarf on a woman's head doesn't define her, but in her case, that's a lie.
Nadeine's life changed overnight. As a mixed-race teenager, she had unknowingly been passing as white her entire life: until she decided to wear the hijab. Then, in an instant, she went from being an unassuming white(ish) child to something sinister and threatening, perverse and foreign.
Veiled Threat is a sharp and illuminating examination of what it is to be a visibly Muslim woman in modern Britain, a nation intent on forced assimilation and integration and one that views covered bodies as primitive and dangerous. From being bombarded by racist stereotypes to being subjected to structural inequalities on every level, Nadeine asks why Muslim women are forced to contend with the twin oppressions of state-sanctioned Islamophobia and the unrelenting misogyny that fuels our world, all whilst being told by white feminists that they need saving.
Combining a passionate argument with personal experience, Veiled Threat is an indictment of a divided Britain that dominates and systematically others Muslim women at every opportunity.

Few writers have bettered his description of the experiences of front line infantrymen under the stress of battle.' - Max HastingsLion Rampant is Robert Woollcombe's graphic account of his experiences as a front-line infantry officer with the King's Own Scottish Borderers during the desperate battle for Normandy and the Allied advance into Germany. Vividly evoking the confusion, horror and comradeship of war - from the killing fields of Normandy bocage, through house-to-house fighting in shattered Flemish towns, to the final Rhine crossing - Lion Rampant is a powerful, authentic and moving story, telling with extraordinary clarity how the author, his fellow officers and the men of his company lived through one of the most bitter campaigns in history.

Part 2 picks up where Part 1 left off. Part 2 covers my last 24 years in Thailand where I battled drugs and alcohol and pretty much hit the skids until I started attending Alcoholics Annonymous and Narcotics Annonymous meetings here in Thailand. At this time I am one and a half years sober. I am 70 years old and I have a 5 year old son who lives with me in Thailand. This book is not for the faint of heart and in fact is pretty rough. Included in this book are over 200 full page color images which I took along the way. This book does contain erotic photos and erotic text because it is part of my story.
