    Book 29: Heroes for Hire
At Levi’s request, Dante, with misgivings, returns to the one place he swore he never would come back to—Billings, Montana. The place where he lost his wife and daughter many years ago. If returning gives him a sense of peace or at least a way to reconcile what happened so he can move on, then fine. As it is, he finds more surprises in that department than he expected.
Laura needed a job. She had rent to pay and a teenager to feed. After being summarily ejected from her government-sensitive position, she was forced into teaching. But, when she sees something beyond odd in the high school website code, she knows someone has found her. Even worse, it’s likely to be the same person who messed up her life the last time.
Maybe Dante can help her out, but it seems like he has bigger problems than she has, … until her world flips completely out of control, and she needs him more than ever.

In this gripping, family drama, the past collides with the present in unpredictable ways. When her father’s former lover falls down the stairs on Halloween, Maeve finds herself torn between protecting her mother and seeking the truth. As Maeve juggles caring for her aging, unstable mother while managing the demands of her own family, dark questions about the past arise. Did her mother really cause the accident, or is it just a tragic coincidence? And what will Maeve do with the truth when she finds it?
Rich with deeply intriguing characters, this novel explores the complexity of family loyalty, memory, and the haunting influence of long-buried secrets. In order to unravel the truth, Maeve must confront her own perceptions of the past, all the while trying to repair the fraught bond with her teenage daughter.
Suspenseful and emotionally charged, this is a story about the deep, unsettling rifts that can tear families apart. Perfect for readers who love darkly humorous, thought-provoking narratives that challenge notions of guilt, love, and the pull of the past.

A book that pulses with life in the midst of death, The Magic Mountain is a mammoth masterpiece of erudition and irony, sexual tension, and intellectual ferment. Mann utilises a sanatorium in the Swiss Alps, a community dedicated solely to illness, as a microcosm for Europe, which in the years prior to 1914 was already displaying the initial signs of its own terminal madness, in this dizzyingly dense novel of ideas.Death in Venice tells the tale of Gustav von Aschenbach, a successful but ageing writer who follows his wanderlust to Venice in search of spiritual fulfilment but instead leads to his erotic doom. It was published on the eve of World War I, ten years after Buddenbrooks had established Thomas Mann as a literary celebrity.Foreword - Track 1Chapter 1. Arrival - Track 2Chapter 2. Breckinridge Elkins is the roughest, toughest, fastest-shootin', hardest-fightin' feller in the Bear Creek settlement, and probably in the entire Humbolt Mountains. As he travels further from home, he single-handedly takes on outlaws, settles (and starts) feuds and tries his hand at romancing the girls. He also discovers a lot of strange customs among other folks, such as building houses out of boards and wearing clothes that ain't buckskins. Set in Nevada during the late 1800's, this collection of stories is a great rollicking romp through the American frontier as seen through the eyes of one of the most enjoyable characters created in the history of tall tales.
