Sinopse

In the annals of romantic piano music, the "Lyric Pieces" by Edvard Grieg stand as a testament to the profound emotional depth and exquisite craftsmanship of one of Norway's most celebrated composers. Composed in 1867, Opus 12 marks the beginning of a journey that would span decades, encompassing a total of 66 pieces across ten volumes, each imbuing the piano repertoire with a unique blend of Norwegian folk influences and a distinctly romantic sensibility.
Opus 12 consists of eight pieces, each a gem in its own right, offering a glimpse into Grieg's evolving musical language. From the tender melancholy of "Arietta" to the pastoral charm of "Shepherd's Boy," these pieces are not merely compositions but evocative landscapes painted in notes and rhythms. They embody a sense of nostalgia and longing, capturing the essence of Norwegian landscapes and legends with a remarkable poetic touch.
Grieg's ability to distill the spirit of his homeland into these short pieces is nothing short of miraculous. Each piece, while brief in duration, is rich in character, showcasing Grieg's flair for melody and his ingenious use of harmony. The "Lyric Pieces" are not just musical compositions; they are stories told without words, emotions captured in sound.
This edition of Opus 12 invites pianists and music lovers alike to delve into the intimate world of Grieg's early compositions. Whether you are a seasoned performer or a curious explorer of romantic piano music, these pieces offer a wealth of expression, technical challenges, and above all, profound musical enjoyment.
As you journey through these pages, let each piece take you to a different facet of Grieg's imagination. From the playful "Elf Dance" to the reflective "Watchman's Song," these pieces are an invitation to experience the rich tapestry of emotions and images that Grieg so masterfully wove into his music.

A lively collection of essays that re-examines the extraordinary legacies of the four Canadian women who dominated ’90s music and changed the industry forever

“A fascinating, fun, and infuriating read.” — Tegan Quin, Tegan and Sara

In this of-the-moment essay collection, celebrated music journalist Andrea Warner explores the ways in which Céline Dion, Shania Twain, Alanis Morissette, and Sarah McLachlan became bonafide global superstars while revolutionizing ’90s music. In an era when male-fronted musical acts dominated radio and were given serious critical consideration, these four women were reduced, mocked, and disparaged by the media and became pop culture jokes, even as their albums were topping the charts and demolishing sales records.

With empathy, humor, and reflections on her own teenaged perceptions of Céline, Shania, Alanis, and Sarah, Andrea offers us a revised and expanded edition of her 2015 book, providing a new perspective on the legacies of the four Canadian women who dominated the ’90s airwaves and influenced an entire generation of current day popstars with their voices, fashion, and advocacy. As the world is now reconsidering the treatment and reputations of key women in ’90s entertainment, We Oughta Know is definitively entering the chat.

    ABOUT THE FILM
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is a heartwarming science fiction film directed by Steven Spielberg. It follows Elliott, a young boy who befriends an alien, E.T., stranded on Earth. As Elliott and his siblings hide E.T. from their mother and government agents, the bond between them grows stronger. The film explores themes of friendship, empathy, and the innocence of childhood. Spielberg emphasizes emotional connections and the sense of wonder through the eyes of children, creating a powerful narrative about understanding, compassion, and the desire to help others, regardless of their origins. The movie balances adventure with deep emotional moments.

    TRIVIA SAMPLES:

“A 2'10" tall stuntman performed most of the full-body puppetry for E.T. However, the kitchen scenes were filmed using a 12-year-old boy who was born without legs but was an expert at walking on his hands.”

“To help audiences connect more deeply with the child protagonist, Steven Spielberg shot much of the film from a child's eye level, aligning the camera perspective with that of Elliott and E.T.”

“The Halloween scene where E.T. sees a child in a Yoda costume suggests that they come from the same galaxy. Interestingly, the Star Wars universe also references E.T. when E.T.'s species appears in the Senate scene of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.”

The astounding story of the quest to find the living descendants of the most monstrous tyrant in history - Adolf HitlerAdolf Hitler was one of six children born to his mother, and one of eight born to his father from two of his three marriages. Alois Hitler, né Schicklgruber, was an official of the Austrian customs service, and the combination of an imperial uniform and a severe drinking habit seems to have ensured that Hitler's father was a drunken bully given to beating his children if they were not instantly obedient.Alois had two children, Alois junior and Angela, by his second wife, and six by his third, Hitler's mother Clara, of whom four, all boys, died at birth or in infancy. Young Adolf was therefore left with a half-brother, Alois, and half-sister, Angela, and a full sister, Paula, who died in 1960. When Hitler killed himself in April 1945, all his siblings were still living and some had children of their own. So, what happened to them? The answer is that no one was really certain until David Gardner published this book in 2001, having patiently and steadfastly tracked down Hitler's living relations to the USA, and made contact with some of them. Now revised and updated, this is a fascinating study of a little-known side of Hitler's history, as well as a riveting account of how the author traced and contacted the survivors of a bloodline that most of the world probably hoped had become extinct.

The Western Han Dynasty (206 BCE – 9 CE) emerged following the collapse of the Qin Dynasty, a period marked by harsh legalist rule and widespread rebellion. The fall of the Qin created a power vacuum, leading to years of conflict between rival warlords. Among them was Liu Bang, a peasant-born general who would go on to establish one of China’s most influential dynasties. His leadership, pragmatic policies, and ability to gain the support of both the military and the common people played a crucial role in shaping the early Han state.
Liu Bang, later known as Emperor Gaozu, rose to prominence during the rebellion against the Qin. Unlike his rival Xiang Yu, a nobleman known for his military prowess, Liu Bang relied on strategy, diplomacy, and alliances to gain an advantage. In 202 BCE, he decisively defeated Xiang Yu at the Battle of Gaixia, solidifying his control over China and declaring himself the first emperor of the Han Dynasty. His rule marked a shift away from the oppressive policies of the Qin, emphasizing stability, leniency, and bureaucratic governance.
One of Gaozu’s first major reforms was the reduction of harsh legalist laws that had caused unrest under the Qin. He abolished extreme punishments, lowered taxes, and granted land to military leaders and allies. However, in order to maintain control, he adopted a semi-feudal system, granting large territories to loyal kings while keeping direct control over the central government. This system helped secure loyalty but later posed challenges as regional rulers sought more autonomy.
