Sinossi

Rum, a sailing ship, and a dare… …What could go wrong? Edgar Allan Poe’s only complete novel, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket is one of the first adventure stories set in and around the Antarctic, which at the time was a place of mystery and the unknown. Pym takes us on an adventure across the seas to uncharted southern lands that are fraught with danger. With shipwrecks, murder, mutiny, and, yes, cannibalism, this tale has it all. First published in 1838, midway between Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe and Stevenson’s Treasure Island, Poe’s Pym echoes one and presages the other while delving even deeper into the darkness of men’s souls. This new edition, with a new Foreword by New York Times best-selling author and Bram Stoker Award winner Jonathan Maberry, brings the classic tale back to life. Not for the faint of heart, Poe’s novel, which inspired H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, H.P. Lovecraft, and many others, reflects the wonder and dangers of exploring the unknown.

As the sailors reluctantly help him, he reveals a horrifying tale of shipwreck, starvation, and a strange, fungal infection that has ravaged him and his fiancée. Not everything they told you is true…
…because it was my job to ensure you never knew the whole truth. If the American people understood what really happened, the U.S. government feared life would have irrevocably changed for the worse.
In Space Chase, the premier installment of The Palmdale Files, former agent Harold Anderson reveals the true story behind a mysterious Lockheed U-2 "Dragon Lady" crash in the mountains of Nevada and the extreme efforts the U.S. government went through to hide what happened. Space Chase—also known as Event 21 Zeta—is the first in a series of forgotten and buried events the author once destroyed to protect the peace and security of the United States—events the government would rather hide forever.
Never heard of Palmdale? The author isn't surprised, and believes you never will outside of these short stories. The Palmdale Files share highlights from Harold Anderson's U.S. Air Force career, where he worked to defend the nation and the world from paranoid hysteria about unexplained phenomena and threats from above.

'The White Stocking'. In this beautifully observed study of a new marriage and the sexual tensions that run through it, Lawrence returns to his theme that happiness in marriage can only come with the submission of the woman to the man. The young wife strains against the bonds of being married and dallies with another man but returns to the arms of her husband once he shows his true feelings for her.

In the novel Who's Who When Everyone Is Someone Else, the character "C. D. Rose" (not to be confused with the author C. D. Rose) searches an unnamed middle-European city for the long-lost manuscript of a little-known writer named Maxim Guyavitch. That search was fruitless, but in The Blind Accordionist, "C. D. Rose" has found the manuscript—nine sparkling, fable-like short stories—and he presents them here with an (hilarious) introduction explaining the discovery, and an afterword providing (hilarious) critical commentary on the stories, and what they might reveal about the mysterious Guyavitch.

The Blind Accordionist is another masterful book of world-making by the real C. D. Rose, absorbing in its mix of intelligence and light-heartedness, and its ultimate celebration of literature itself. It is the third novel in the series about "C. D. Rose," although the reader does not need to have read the previous two books. (The first in the series was The Biographical Dictionary of Literary Failure; the second was Who's Who When Everyone Is Someone Else.)

Like those books, The Blind Accordionist can be read both as a simple but wonderful collection of quirky stories, and as comedy—or as a beautiful and moving elegy on the nobility of writers wanting to be read.

Six has always been a number we group things around – Six of the best, six of one half a dozen of another, six feet under, six pack, six degrees of separation and a sixth sense are but a few of the ways we use this number.

Such is its popularity that we thought it is also a very good way of challenging and investigating an author’s work to give width, brevity, humour and depth across six of their very best.

In this series we gather together authors whose short stories both rivet the attention and inspire the imagination to visit their gems in a series of six, to roam across an author’s legacy in a few short hours and gain a greater understanding of their writing and, of course, to be lavishly entertained by their ideas, their narrative and their way with words.

These stories can be surprising and sometimes at a tangent to what we expected, but each is fully formed and a marvellous adventure into the world and words of a literary master.

My name is Jack Pilton and I moved into one of those lovely old terraced houses that Cornwall is so famous for in a village called Little Trumpington. Low beamed ceilings and thick walls with stone stairs worn with thousands of shoes over hundreds of years. I'm not wealthy but I've enough for a comfortable lifestyle supported by the romantic novels I write for Amazon.
Soon after I arrived in the village I was asked if the local women’s group could use my lounge for their weekly card game and I was welcome to join in if I could play whist. The previous owner had been happy to let the group play in the modernised lounge that had been knocked through into the dining room and kitchen, so there was plenty of room. I didn’t see any reason not to let them play there.
I was very soon swept away with the game but more importantly the forfeits that the losers agreed to. The winners would spank the losers but as I was the only man in the group I eventually did all the spanking.
That was all eight months ago and since then spanking has become such a part of the women’s group that we had a spanking stall at the village fete a couple of weeks ago. After that, I proposed marriage to Mary who seemed to be the leader of the group and she accepted.
In this book, more women join the group and I have to spank them all. In addition, Samantha’s daughter Primrose is spanked three times and my neighbour is spanked as well. Finally, Mary and I get married and I spank all the ladies at the wedding naked which produces some wonderful wedding photos.
