Sinossi

Fantasy Constructs explores the intriguing world of erotic fantasies, revealing how they're shaped by both cultural narratives and individual experiences. It delves into the interplay between "cultural scripting," the shared societal beliefs about sexuality, and "personal schema," our unique collection of memories and emotions that influence our perceptions. The book argues that our fantasies aren't purely innate but rather constructed through a dynamic negotiation between external influences and internal interpretations. The book examines how societal norms, media representations, and personal experiences converge to create our unique desires. For example, shifts in societal attitudes toward sexuality, such as the sexual revolution, have significantly impacted the landscape of erotic imagination. Fantasy Constructs progresses by first establishing a theoretical framework, then explores specific cultural narratives related to gender roles and power dynamics, and finally delves into the psychological processes through which individuals internalize and adapt these narratives. This social science and psychology analysis provides a unique perspective by integrating cultural analysis with psychological insights, offering a nuanced understanding of sexual desire. The insights found within Fantasy Constructs can be applied to various real-world contexts, such as promoting healthier media representations of sexuality and helping individuals challenge harmful stereotypes.

To get it right in the mission to end homelessness, we don’t have to choose between faith and factsFor well over a century, Christian ministries have actively offered relief for the poor and unhoused in North America. The dominant model in faith-based homelessness response has long been gospel rescue missions, nonprofit organizations that shelter and feed people experiencing homelessness. While the presence of these ministries in this work is undeniable, they frequently position themselves against best practices to meet their goal of evangelism. This approach often perpetuates homelessness instead of ending it.In this inspiring and clarifying book, homeless services advocate Kevin Nye reports on dozens of faith-based stories and examples that will equip readers to help end homelessness in their communities. Alongside critical evaluation of what Christian groups have tended to get wrong in addressing homelessness, Nye offers stories of faith and hope about what’s going right. Churches and other organizations have been faithfully answering the call to provide services, support, shelter, housing, and so much more in ways that align with broader efforts to successfully end homelessness. These exemplars embody the spirit of Christian social response alongside a commitment to the most effective, evidence-based practices for ending homelessness. Hope for the Mission offers groups of any size paths to consider, values to emulate, and methods to embody as we follow Jesus toward solidarity with the unhoused. As we imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home, we can find hope and insight for the real mission that lies before us: loving our unhoused neighbors in ways that bring them into fullness and flourishing.

The earliest history of Babylon is little known. Among the many cities flourishing in southern Iraq, the town first appears in texts in the third millennium BC. Until the last century of the third millennium, few references existed to Babylon; however, offerings made to the temple of Enlil in Nippur during this period (when Babylon was part of an empire ruled by Ur) suggest a city already of some size and wealth. From relative obscurity in the middle of the 18th century BC, Babylon emerged as the political center of southern Mesopotamia. It held this position almost continuously for the next 1,400 years.
Near Baghdad, around 85 kilometers south of the Euphrates, is the site of Babylon. The area is located north of the great alluvial plain of southern Iraq, a landscape of silts deposited by the Tigris and Euphrates into a vast rift created by tectonic movement as the Arabian plate slips beneath the neighboring Eurasian plate. In addition to defining modern-day Iraq's northern and eastern boundaries, the Taurus and Zagros mountain ranges were created by the same collision. As a result, Mesopotamia encompasses several environmental zones, but Babylon itself is found in the flat alluvial plain in southern Iraq.

Cornelia Arnolda Johanna "Corrie" ten Boom (April 15, 1892 - April 15, 1983) was a Dutch watchmaker who worked with her father Casper and other family members to help, reportedly, 800 Jews escape the Nazi Holocaust during World War II by hiding them in their home. Eventually, the family was caught, and ten Boom was arrested and sent to Ravens-brück concentration camp, but released after ten months due to a clerical error. Later in life, ten Boom wrote, "The Hiding Place," a biography that recounts the story of her family's efforts and how she was able to find hope while imprisoned at the concentration camp. It was later made in to a movie.
