Sinossi

Dervla Murphy describes with passionate honesty the experience of her most recent journeys into Israel and Palestine. In cramped Haifa high-rises, in homes in the settlements and in a refugee camp on the West Bank, she talks with whomever she meets, trying to understand them and their attitudes with her customary curiosity, her acute ear and mind, her empathy, her openness to the experience and her moral seriousness. Behind the book lies a desire to communicate the reality of life on the ground, and to puzzle out for herself what might be done to alleviate the suffering of all who wish to share this land and to make peace in the region a possibility. Meeting the wise, the foolish and the frankly deluded, she knits together a picture of the patchwork that constitutes both sides of the divide -Hamas and Fatah, rural and urban, refugee, Bedouin nomad, indigenous inhabitant, Black Hebrew, Kabbalist, secular and Orthodox. She keeps an open mind, but her sympathies are clearly with the Palestinians, remorselessly dispossessed of, and cut off from, their lands and frustrated and humiliated on a daily basis. Clinging to hope, she comes to believe that despite its difficulties the only viable future lies in a single democratic state of Israel/Palestine, based on one person, one vote -the One-State Solution.

The little-known, real-life account of a Canadian hero’s courage and loyalty in the face of Nazi Germany’s greatest horrors during World War II. On the night of 27/28 April 1944, Teddy Blenkinsop and his crew were acting as deputy master bombers during a Pathfinder raid on Montzen in Belgium. After a successful attack, their Lancaster was shot down. Miraculously he survived to be protected by Belgian citizens before ending his days in Bergen Belsen concentration camp. Little was known of his exploits in between until Peter Celis, a Belgian air-force officer, began to research the story. What he uncovered is far more amazing than any fictional film could be. He found that Blenkinsop was not only an exceptional and gallant operational pilot, but that his loyalty, dedication and devotion were second to none and that his bravery and fearlessness led him to make the supreme sacrifice in the face of Nazi Germany. Written with pace and insight, this is an uplifting account of an outstanding young man who very nearly made it back home.

"The highlights of my extraordinary journey with Mr Clarkson included pizza with Harry and Wills; dancing with Mick Jagger on the private island of Mustique (Mick had to pull me up after, shamefully, I could not recover from the twist!); and having happy birthday sung to me by Brian Ferry and Richard E. Grant. I was asked out by Hugh Grant (and went!); partied at what I called Jimmy Carr’s celebtastic weekly house parties attended by Sir Elton John, James Corden and the like; and, at Jerry Hall and Rupert Murdoch’s engagement party, I received the ultimate compliment on my outfit from the Dame Joan Collins.
The adventures, laughter, drama and excitement were neverending. Party after party, celeb after celeb, private villas, palaces, MPs and royalty adorned our crazy life on this road less travelled.
From the low-budget, dark, smoke- and fume-filled halls of Earls Court Exhibition Centre and the NEC in Birmingham, where the highlights of our nights out were a good curry and gallons of beer followed by ridiculous games of girl-on-girl arm wrestling and the Celebrity Loo Roll Challenge – this entailed Clarkson, Hammond, May or The Stig having to return from the bathroom with loo roll tucked down their trousers, trailing a length of loo paper from cubicle to table without it breaking – Jeremy ascended to great heights, both in his professional career and his personal life. So too did our relationship, leading us both into a social circle that most can only dream of."
In The Wonderful World of Jeremy Clarkson, Phillipa Sage shares her continuing adventures – the ongoing highs, lows and constant mayhem – she shared for so many years with Clarkson and his fellow presenters, Hammond and May, some of which she had begun to detail in her first book, Off Road with Clarkson, Hammond and May.

A biography of Abraham Lincoln by his long-time law partner, William Herndon and Herndon's collaborator, Jesse Weik. The book is notable for its extensive use of first hand interviews (unusual for its time) and for Herndon's overriding determination to convey an affectionate but frank picture of his law partner's life story as remembered by Lincoln's family, friends, associates and neighbors. Tracey Curtis-Taylor has created headlines around the world with three epic flights in a 1942 Boeing Stearman biplane. Paying homage to two historic female aviators, she flew from Cape Town to Goodwood in 2013, from London to Australia in 2015 and, two years later, completed a transcontinental flight across the USA, after surviving a plane crash during the expedition. But her daring exploits came at a huge personal cost. From the moment the Light Aircraft Association (LAA) awarded her a prestigious trophy for ‘navigation, a feat of aviation, endurance and tenacity', several men with personal grudges made it their mission not just to strip Tracey of her award but to destroy her reputation. Now, for the first time and with searing honesty, Tracey tells, in breath-taking detail, the remarkable story of how she overcame extreme adversity to complete her three epic journeys. And she charts the bitter campaign waged against her, revealing the rank misogyny and hypocrisy that exists in British aviation. In Bird, her unique and action-packed memoir, she also tells how:She cheated death twice – once in a high-speed boating accident and again when her historic Stearman crashed in the Arizona desert. Her unconventional upbringing sparked her spirit of adventure – but a shocking secret drove her family apartShe fulfilled her dreams only after overcoming a series of near-critical setbacksTracey took her first flying lesson at 16 but it was in New Zealand where she properly learned to fly and had her first taste of piloting historic aircraftOvercoming a series of traumatic events, including a failed marriage, Tracey returned to England and, in 2009, was determined to emulate the heroics of Lady Heath, the first UK woman to hold a pilot's licence and the first person to fly from Cape Town to London in an open-cockpit aircraft.

In That Thing You Do With Your Mouth, actress and voiceover artist Samantha Matthews offers—in the form of an extended monologue, prompted and arranged by New York Times bestselling author (and Matthews’s cousin once removed) David Shields—a vivid investigation of her startling sexual history.
From her abuse at the hands of a family member to her present-day life in Barcelona, where she briefly moonlighted as a dubber of Italian pornography into English, Matthews reveals herself to be a darkly funny, deeply contemporary woman with a keen awareness of how her body has been routinely hijacked and how she has been “formatted” by her early trauma. Her story is a study of her own uneasy relationships with female desire, her tormentors, and her lovers—with whom she seeks out both the infliction and receipt of harm. This book is an attempt, sometimes self-thwarted, to break down barriers: sexual and emotional for Matthews, and literary for Shields.
For Matthews and Shields, the only response to the unspeakable is to speak, to do that thing you do with your mouth, as directly and honestly as possible. Their provocative performance refuses neat resolution or emotional pornography; it will have readers, from literary critics to Jezebel commentators, raving, raging, celebrating, and talking.

The following two titles are in this guide:
Book 1: What is emotional intelligence? Does it help us make better, more rational decisions?
Can we resist sales tactics and do the math, or do we jump in on emotional trends?
Those are some of the things we will discuss here. Other things that will rise to the surface are things like the mind of a psychopath, sinister tactics governments use to spread propaganda through the news, and how we can detect lies and manipulation faster.
If any of these things sound interesting to you, then I encourage you to start reading or listening to this book.
Book 2: People lie every day. Not everyone, but sadly, many people lie daily. But why? And how do you see what is true and what is not true?
This is where this book can help you. This book goes over the context of deception, the lies you can easily spot, and some interesting facts about people’s personality that will shock you. How a personality adds to the things they say, is, of course, significant. Therefore, we will explore that connection.
There is so much to learn! I hope you will begin reading or listening quickly.
