Sinossi

D. H. Lawrence's "Sons and Lovers" is a seminal work that explores the complexities of familial relationships, particularly the intricate bond between mothers and sons. Set in the mining community of early 20th-century England, the novel employs a rich, impressionistic style that captures the raw emotional landscapes of its characters. Lawrence delves deeply into themes of love, class struggle, and the impact of industrialization, often weaving in psychological insights that reflect the influence of both Freudian and Nietzschean thought prevalent at the time. The narrative is interspersed with vivid descriptions and lyrical prose, making it not just a story of individual crises but also a commentary on societal transformations. D. H. Lawrence, a key figure in the modernist literary movement, was profoundly shaped by his own tumultuous upbringing in a working-class family. His personal experiences with love, betrayal, and the search for identity inform his character development and thematic exploration in "Sons and Lovers." Lawrence's fascination with the dynamics of human relationships arises from his profound sense of alienation in a rapidly changing world, giving readers insight into the struggles of his characters, which parallel his own life. This timeless novel is highly recommended for readers seeking to understand the complexities of human emotion and familial bonds. Lawrence's exploration of the interplay between love and obligation resonates on multiple levels, inviting readers to reflect on their own relationships. "Sons and Lovers" offers an enduring examination of the modern psyche, making it an essential read for anyone interested in understanding the intersections of love, class, and individuality.

"It is in the moments of solitude that the most profound changes occur within us; it is when we learn to see beyond mere appearances."

Published when Tolstoy was just twenty-three years old, the trilogy, Childhood, Boyhood, Youth, was an immediate success, earning notice from other Russian novelists including Ivan Turgenev, who heralded the young Tolstoy as a major up-and-coming figure in Russian literature.
Childhood, Boyhood, Youth, is a vibrant account of a young person's emerging awareness of the world, himself and the people around him as described through the eyes of its protagonist, Nikolai, the son of a wealthy Russian landowner.

Moving through the innocence of childhood, the emotional turbulence of adolescence and the idealistic aspirations of early adulthood, this work captures the essence of growing up and paints a deeply moving portrait of self-discovery and transformation as Nikolai experiences first love, deep friendships, personal disappointments, and the struggle to define his place in the world.

George Robert Gissing was born on November 22nd, 1857 in Wakefield, Yorkshire.
He was educated at Back Lane School in Wakefield. Gissing loved school. He was enthusiastic with a thirst for learning and always diligent. By the age of ten he was reading Dickens, a lifelong hero.
In 1872 Gissing won a scholarship to Owens College. Whilst there Gissing worked hard but remained solitary. Unfortunately, he had run short of funds and stole from his fellow students. He was arrested, prosecuted, found guilty, expelled and sentenced to a month's hard labour in 1876.
On release he decided to start over. In September 1876 he travelled to the United States. Here he wrote short stories for the Chicago Tribune and other newspapers. On his return home he was ready for novels.
Gissing self-published his first novel but it failed to sell. His second was acquired but never published. His writing career was static. Something had to change. And it did.
By 1884 The Unclassed was published. Now everything he wrote was published. Both Isabel Clarendon and Demos appeared in 1886. He mined the lives of the working class as diligently as any capitalist.
In 1889 Gissing used the proceeds from the sale of The Nether World to go to Italy. This trip formed the basis for his 1890 work The Emancipated.
Gissing's works began to command higher payments. New Grub Street (1891) brought a fee of £250.
Short stories followed and in 1895, three novellas were published; Eve's Ransom, The Paying Guest and Sleeping Fires. Gissing was careful to keep up with the changing attitudes of his audience.
Unfortunately, he was also diagnosed as suffering from emphysema. The last years of his life were spent as a semi-invalid in France but he continued to write. 1899; The Crown of Life. Our Friend the Charlatan appeared in 1901, followed two years later by The Private Papers of Henry Ryecroft.
George Robert Gissing died aged 46 on December 28th, 1903 after catching a chill on a winter walk.

The famous phrase of the writer: "Brevity is the sister of talent", could not be more suited to the work of Anton Chekhov himself. One right stroke to mark the character, with apt word to say about the main thing, to precisely place accents and draw a bright three-dimensional picture in just a few minutes is the work of the wizard. No one is as amused as Chekhov, and no one is so sad as he. The collection includes selected stories and stories in which the classic, who entered the history of literature under the frivolous pseudonym Antosha Chekhonte, draws eternal characters that invariably amaze with their psychological nude. This audiobook includes:A Pink Stocking A Country CottageA Daughter of AlbionAn InquiryAt A Summer VillaFat and ThinNervesToo EarlyA Lottery TicketA Story Without An EndAbout LoveDifficult PeopleThe Doctor.
