The Savage Pilgrimage – A Biography of D. H. Lawrence by Catherine Carswell
D. H. Lawrence is best known for his novels Sons and Lovers, The Rainbow, Women in Love and Lady Chatterley's Lover. In these books, Lawrence explores the possibilities for life within an industrial setting. In particular Lawrence is concerned with the nature of relationships that can be had within such a setting. Though often classed as a realist, Lawrence in fact uses his characters to give form to his personal philosophy. His depiction of sexuality, though seen as shocking when his work was first published in the early 20th century, has its roots in this highly personal way of thinking and being. In his later years Lawrence developed the potentialities of the short novel form in The Ladybird, The Fox, The Captain's Doll, St Mawr, The Virgin and the Gypsy and The Escaped Cock.

St Patrick is one of the most famous saints of all time. Thousands of people with no direct Irish connection celebrate St Patrick's Day, parading along the streets of New York, Boston, Chicago, San Antonio, Texas and Sydney, where St Patrick's Day is a national holiday. These celebrations are the latest version of the cult of St Patrick, which has persisted in different forms since his death on 17 March, 462AD.
But who was St Patrick, and how much of what we know about him is fact, how much legend? This book looks at the historical man and the evidence of his writings, the myths and the apocryphal stories, and describes the social changes that led in the 18th century to his emergence as a symbol of Irish nationalism. Patrick: From Patron Saint to Modern Influencer is a fascinating and lively portrait of the man who converted pagan Ireland to Christianity – a fresh, sometimes startling examination of the folklore and traditions that have developed around the saint through the ages.
First published in 1989 in the UK and USA, this fully updated edition features new photographs and illustrations and will be an indispensable companion for anyone seeking to understand the role of St Patrick in forging modern Irish identity.

“I notice a Bible and some books on a small table in the front of the church. I think I'll just read and settle into a pew. Suddenly, I'm not sitting on a hard pew. I'm in some other space, a place where I have never been before. It glows, shimmers. I'm suddenly wrapped and pulled into a Presence. It feels as though the whole church is now filled with this Presence. I'm held by a golden, shimmering light. I am With Him…”
Judith Bowen’s first vision appeared when she was fifteen. It carried her out of the pew and into a space she had never experienced, forming the foundation of a mystical quest that continues to call her to know more, to explore our relationship with nature and our Creator, and to discover a deeper understanding of the connection between all living things. Profoundly influenced by the work and music of the mystic Hildegard von Bingen, Bowen went on to find inspiration in the music of nature, ultimately knowing that her gift was to be a healer.
In these pages, Judith shares her insights on how we all can find the mystical in our daily lives. We are all creators in our relationships and the sense of reverence we bring to every moment is a way to honor our dance with our Creator.

Exploding on the music scene in the early 1970s, the rock group KISS combined raw energy with theatrical showmanship—not to mention face painting! Founding member Gene Simmons—an outrageous star whose superlong tongue, legendary sexual exploits, and demonic makeup have made him a rock icon—recounts his own story as well as the history of the band. In KISS and Make-Up, Simmons shares a wild, shocking, and unbelievable tale about an immigrant boy from Israel who studied to be a rabbi but was saved by rock and roll and became one of the most notorious rock stars in the world.

In his irreverent voice, Gene talks about the girls (more than 4,000!); his bond with KISS cofounder Paul Stanley; the struggles he and Paul had with Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, and the untimely death of Eric Carr. He also details his love life, including stories about his relationships with Cher, Diana Ross, and Shannon Tweed—the mother of his son and daughter and companion for almost forty years. And, of course, Simmons expresses his enormous love and affection for the people who put him there in the first place—the KISS Army and the ever-loyal KISS fans around the world!
