Sinossi

Youth Shelter Access addresses the critical issue of housing insecurity and homelessness among LGBTQ youth in the United States. These young people face significantly higher rates of homelessness due to factors like family rejection, discrimination, and violence, highlighting a major gap in the social safety net. The book reveals that many existing shelter systems fail LGBTQ youth due to inadequate staff training, discriminatory practices, and the absence of LGBTQ-inclusive policies, challenging the notion that all shelters are inherently safe spaces.

The book explores this complex issue through a systematic approach. It begins by establishing the scope of LGBTQ youth homelessness and then examines relevant federal, state, and local policies. A substantial portion is dedicated to analyzing shelter training programs and assessing how well they address LGBTQ-specific needs. The study also examines regional variations in shelter access, identifying both successful approaches and areas needing improvement.

Ultimately, Youth Shelter Access offers concrete policy recommendations and strategies for fostering more inclusive shelter environments. It calls for LGBTQ-inclusive policies, comprehensive shelter training programs, and increased funding for specialized services. By using a fact-based approach, the book aims to empower academics, policymakers, social workers, and advocates to drive change and create more equitable systems of care for vulnerable youth.

This program is read by the author. For John Freeman—literary critic, essayist, editor, poet, “one of the preeminent book people of our time” (Dave Eggers)—it is the rare moment when words are not enough. But in the wake of the election of 2016, words felt useless, even indulgent. Action was the only reasonable response. He took to the streets in protest, and the sense of community and collective conviction felt right. But the assaults continued—on citizens’ rights and long-held compacts, on the core principles of our culture and civilization, and on our language itself. Words seemed to be losing the meanings they once had and Freeman was compelled to return to their defense. The result is his Dictionary of the Undoing. From A to Z, “Agitate” to “Zygote,” Freeman assembled the words that felt most essential, most potent, and began to build a case for their renewed power and authority, each word building on the last. The message that emerged was not to retreat behind books, but to emphatically engage in the public sphere, to redefine what it means to be a literary citizen. With an afterword by Valeria Luiselli, Dictionary of the Undoing is a necessary, resounding cri de coeur in defense of language, meaning, and our ability to imagine, describe, and build a better world.

On July 12, 1588, the legendary Spanish Armada headed for the English Channel. The Spanish plan was to take this invasion, led by the Duke of Parma, to the coast of southeast England, where they would be unleashed to conquer Elizabethan England for Spain’s King Philip II and Catholic Christendom. The Armada included over 150 ships, 8,000 sailors, and 18,000 soldiers, and it boasted a firepower of 1,500 brass guns and 1,000 iron guns. Just leaving port itself took the entire Armada two days.
As everyone who has been taught history now knows, the Armada was one of the most famous military debacles in history. Regardless of the debate over whether it was simple mathematical miscalculation or plain bad luck, coupled with English fire ships assailing the Spanish ships, the Armada was decisively defeated. The Armada ultimately found its reluctant way home in awful conditions, having permanently lost over a third of the ships, and on the Irish coast, the Armada suffered further losses.
For the Counter Armada, Elizabeth turned to the most notorious English sailor of the era. The life of Sir Francis Drake, or, more precisely the tale of it, is a prime example that history is written by the winners. Drake’s successes against the Spanish as a captain and a privateer were legendary, and Drake was celebrated for fighting the queen’s enemies, sinking their ships and capturing the treasure that would otherwise be used to finance attacks on England. Drake vigorously pursued every mission given to him by Elizabeth I, and he brought all his skill, experience, and training to bear against her enemies. He was recognized at court for his valor, praised in story and song, and remembered for the kind of personality and esprit de corps that the English have long desired and celebrated in their military heroes. They were to patrol the shores of England and Spain and destroy any remaining Spanish ships.

You know how your partner or colleague typically reacts, but with this book, you will also understand their fundamental motives. This way, you can avoid many arguments that follow the same pattern as the last time you disagreed. The same logic will help you in the future when completing a task for your boss. When dealing with customers, you will instinctively know whether they seek something innovative or reassurance about their purchase. In addition to being able to read others’ thoughts, you will also understand how people perceive you.
The book is logically structured and easy to understand. It includes many practical examples of the four different roles we all take on. As you read, you won’t be able to help but think of the various people you interact with—and you will see them in a whole new light. The book has been developed over many years through team-building exercises, where participants have defended their behavior in demanding and complex collaborations. You will feel proud of yourself and your behavior when you realize the unconscious values that guide you. Unfortunately, not everyone shares your values.
Do you know the feeling of just clicking with certain people? Feeling a sense of connection with them? You can experience that same feeling with many others, even if they seem different from you. Even those closest to us may not share the same values, which is why differing opinions and decisions can lead to conflict. But imagine if you saw it as an advantage to be with someone who has different values—and therefore different strengths. Together, you can achieve so much more.
As normal human beings, we often focus on the personal traits that we struggle with the most when interacting with others. The problem is that we tend to see the downside of these traits and not the person's strengths.

The history of Russia is anticipated to be a commonly comprehensible and plainly structured outline of Russia’s history since 1283, after the rise of Moscow. Russia was at its best in the 13th century when Moscow became a center for cultural activities. The Russian Tsardom was now huge Empire which spread from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the east till the Pacific Ocean. Extension towards the west refines Russia’s consciousness of how remaining Europe had devastated the remoteness in which the early phases of extension had transpired. Succeeding governments of the 19th century retorted to such stresses with anamalgamation of unenthusiastic reform and subjugation. Serfdom in Russia was obliterated in 1861 but its abolition was attained on terms which were not favourable to the rustics and aided in increasing radical pressures. The phase between the serfdom and the beginning of World War I in 1914, State Duma, the Stolypin reforms and the constitution of 1906 endeavoured to open and slacken the Russian politics and economy but the tsars were reluctant to renounce autocratic rule or part with their supremacy.
A mix of fiscal breakdown, dissatisfaction with the autocratic government and wearies of the war elicited the 1917 Russian Revolution and first brought a association of moderate socialists and liberals to power, however their unsuccessful policies led to the confiscation of their control by the Communist Bolsheviks in October 25. The crucial history of the Soviet Union is between the 1922 and 1991, effectually Russia was a state based on ideology that indelicately had the same history as it did before the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. Socialism was however build differently over various eras in the Russian history, from the varied society and variegated economy and ethos of 1920’s to tyranny and authoritative economy of Stalin to the 1980’s‘era of stagnation’. From its initial years in March 1918, the government in Soviet Union was grounded on the one-party rule of the Communists (this is what Bolshevik’s called themselves). By the mid 1980’s, with the faintness of its fiscal and administrative edifices getting severe, Mikhail Gorbachev boarded on important alterations, that led to the descent of the Soviet Union. Formally the history of Russian Federation begins in January 1992; they were the lawful beneficiaries to the Soviet Union on the global stage.
Russia’s superpowers have gone astray after fronting stern encounters in its struggles to form a new post-Soviet fiscal and administrative system. Scuffling the socialist crucial preparation and national possession of property of the Soviet era, Russia endeavoured to form an economy centred on market entrepreneurship, frequently with sore consequences. In the century, Vladimir Putin has been its governing leader. Even now Russia shares much continuity of political principles and communal construction with its Soviet and tsarist past.
