  “Peak oil” is the phrase used to describe the point where the world’s oil supply, well, peaks. A fairly easy concept there. It’s the best we can do, and the best we will ever do, when it comes to pumping conventional crude oil out of the ground. After peak oil, it’s all downhill, production-wise. 
  Too many people think that peak oil means that the oil is going to run out, and that’s not quite right. The oil will not run out. Not ever. It will, over time, get increasingly rare and probably expensive (before it’s worthless), but there will always be at least a little bit of oil for us to use. Well, for someone to use. Probably not you and me, unless I sell a whole shipload of books. No pressure.

  One of the most important breakthroughs in military technology associated with World War I, and certainly the one that continues to capture the public imagination, was the introduction of a war machine that came to dominate the face of land battles throughout most of the 20th century: the tank. As a concept, it was not revolutionary; in fact, it harkened back to classical antiquity and to the Middle Ages, such as the covered battering rams and testudos which had made frequent appearances on ancient battlefields. In essence, it was designed to solve the age-old problem of protecting infantry from enemy projectiles while remaining mobile. 	Ironically, Germany, which would subsequently become famous for panzers and blitzkrieg warfare, was late in taking up the idea. During World War I, the Germans continued to rely on other techniques, and they produced less than two dozen models for battlefield use.  
  	The beginning of World War II found the major powers developing tanks to some extent, but lingering ideas from World War I affected the development of tanks during the Interwar period. As a result, aside from the blitzkrieg doctrine developed by the Nazis, tanks were still used in terms of infantry support, and there were few wars during this period to give strategists the chance to develop better uses for the new armored vehicles before World War II started. Commanders soon found that many of the tanks fielded in the campaigns of 1939-1941 lacked the necessary armor, guns, and designs. Inevitably, tactics evolved throughout the war. The Germans were early leaders in tank tactics, as their successes from Poland through the opening phases of Operation Barbarossa demonstrated. The main German tank tactic was the so-called Schwerpunkt (“center of gravity”), in which a concentration of tanks achieved a local superiority, broke through, and drove deep behind enemy lines.

  Geronimo, a legendary Apache leader and medicine man from the Bedonkohe band, played a pivotal role in resisting Mexican and American military forces during the 19th century. Between 1850 and 1886, he worked with warriors from three other Chiricahua Apache bands—Tchihende, Tsokanende, and Nednhi—to carry out daring raids and resist encroachments on Apache lands. Their campaigns spanned northern Mexico, including the states of Chihuahua and Sonora, and the southwestern territories of the United States, particularly New Mexico and Arizona.  
  This era of conflict was part of the broader Apache–United States struggle, which arose after American colonization of Apache territories following the conclusion of the U.S.-Mexico War in 1848. For the Apaches, life on government-imposed reservations clashed with their fiercely independent spirit and traditional nomadic lifestyle. Geronimo emerged as a key figure leading resistance against these constraints. Despite his reputation, Geronimo was not a chief of the Chiricahua or Bedonkohe bands. However, his exceptional skills as a leader in raids and warfare earned him the loyalty of many Apache warriors, often commanding between 30 and 50 fighters at a time.
