The Gifts of Asti by Andre Norton - She was the guardian of the worlds, but HER world was dead.
Even here, on the black terrace before the forgotten mountain retreat of Asti, it was possible to smell the dank stench of burning Memphir, to imagine that the dawn wind bore upward from the pillaged city the faint tortured cries of those whom the barbarians of Klem hunted to their prolonged death. Indeed it was time to leave—
Varta, last of the virgin Maidens of Asti, shivered. The scaled and wattled creature who crouched beside her thigh turned his reptilian head so that golden eyes met the aquamarine ones set slantingly at a faintly provocative angle in her smooth ivory face.
    "We go—?"
She nodded in answer to that unvoiced question Lur had sent into her brain, and turned toward the dark cavern which was the mouth of Asti's last dwelling place. Once, more than a thousand years before when the walls of Memphir were young, Asti had lived among men below. But in the richness and softness which was trading Memphir, empire of empires, Asti found no place. So He and those who served Him had withdrawn to this mountain outcrop. And she, Varta, was the last, the very last to bow knee at Asti's shrine and raise her voice in the dawn hymn—for Lur, as were all his race, was mute.
Even the loot of Memphir would not sate the shaggy headed warriors who had stormed her gates this day. The stairway to Asti's Temple was plain enough to see and there would be those to essay the steep climb hoping to find a treasure which did not exist. For Asti was an austere God, delighting in plain walls and bare altars. His last priest had lain in the grave niches these three years, there would be none to hold that gate against intruders.

    YOUNG BLACKBEARD THE PIRATE
    PORT OF BRISTOL 1690
Book 6 of 6 – The Great water balloon ambush
Here is the summary of the Story:
In 1690s Bristol, young Edward Teach (future Blackbeard) leads his crew in their most daring raid yet—ambushing their own parents' picnic with water balloons. After days of restless boredom aboard The Salty Pickle, Edward masterminds the attack: modified spud cannons launch pig-bladder balloons, Charles leads a bucket brigade, and Anne's piercing scream signals the assault. The crew infiltrates the meadow with military precision, soaking the unsuspecting adults in a glorious, chaotic battle. Though initially stunned, the parents join the fun, surrendering their soggy sandwiches with laughter. This final adventure showcases Edward's tactical genius and flair for dramatic command—qualities that would later make him history's most feared pirate. The story blends authentic period details with childhood whimsy, concluding the series by demonstrating how Blackbeard's legendary leadership began with simple backyard adventures and loyal friends who followed him into any mischief.
This is the last of six audiobooks in the series and I do hope you enjoy this final instalment, and it's only $3.
The initial opening credit music which does run to approximately 2 minutes being accordion, fiddle, harmonica and bango in a classical sea shanty jig. The closing music ends the tale on a similar jig and at about 2 minutes with the same musical instruments but more upbeat looking forward to the next episode.
The story itself runs to about 35 minutes is narrated in my own voice.
I do hope you enjoy this audiobook and let me know what you think, there are a lot more to come!

A charming family comedy for readers of 8+, with a dash of magic, and the occasional moment of mayhem! These are the third memoirs Holly Hopkinson, aged ten – except without any of the rubbish adults usually put in, thank you very much.
Welcome to volume III of my memoirs – with me, Holly Hopkinson, still in the middle of flipping nowhere, and still on the brink of MULTIPLE CATASTROPHES, like my parents announcing that we might be moving STATESIDE. Good thing my sister is still into organising protests, thank you very much.
PLUS Mum is about to lose what little money we have left on a vegetable shop, there's been a biscuit-fight fiasco in the village and a family secret I uncovered means my suitcase is packed, my goodbyes are prepared – life is cruel at ten.
But fear not because with the help of my Magic Pocket Watch I might get an ACTUAL FACTUAL ROCK STAR to play with my brother’s band! Oh yes. The middle of nowhere, AKA Lower Goring, could be about to hit the news headlines again . . .
This humorous children's fiction is a top pick for young readers, filled with the best stories that will keep them hooked. Holly Hopkinson's adventures, filled with fantasy and juvenile mischief, are sure to make headlines in the world of kids literature.
For fans of Katie Kirby (The Mega-Complicated Crushes of Lottie Brooks), Beth Garrod (The Unfortunate Wishes of Nelly Young), Rachel Renee Russell (Dork Diaries), Catherine Wilkins (My Great Success and Other Failures), and Jen Carney (The Day My Dog Got Famous).
