Summary

What does it mean to be human when the world around us is fractured by conflict, overstimulated by technology, and distant from the natural instincts that once guided us? The Soul, the Wild, and the Screen brings together three powerful explorations—war, wildlife, and work—to examine how modern humans survive, connect, and rediscover meaning.

From geopolitical battlegrounds to inner battles of burnout, this collection spans the raw intensity of holy wars, the quiet wisdom of animals, and the urgent call for digital detox. Yet, at its core, the thread that binds these works is the search for authentic healing—not just in body, but in purpose, attention, and peace.

You’ll enter a Middle East torn between prophecy and modern warfare, witness the deep intelligence of animal healing, and walk beside creators struggling to reclaim mental clarity in an always-on world. Each narrative is distinct, yet together they ask a universal question: What have we forgotten in our race toward control and convenience?

Provocative, reflective, and deeply human, this collection doesn’t just chronicle our world—it dares to ask if we’re still in touch with what really matters.

When everything around you is noise, what truth still speaks from within?

A Le Monde 100 Books of the Century book
Women have burnt like beacons in all the works of all the poets from the beginning of time. … [Woman] pervades poetry from cover to cover; she is all but absent from history. She dominates the lives of kings and conquerors in fiction; in fact she was the slave of any boy whose parents forced a ring upon her finger. Some of the most inspired words and profound thoughts in literature fall from her lips; in real life she could hardly read; scarcely spell; and was the property of her husband.
A Room of One's Own is an extended essay, originally delivered in 1928 as two lectures at two of Cambridge University's women's colleges—Newnham College and Girton College. Through the use of several metaphors, lauded author Virginia Woolf explores the social injustices and structures that prevent women from engaging in free expression and contributing to literature.
A Room of One's Own was published as a book in 1929, and would go on to become a seminal work of feminist criticism. Considered one of the great modernist writers of the 20th century, Virginia Woolf has been named as an influence for writers including Margaret Atwood, Toni Morrison, and Gabriel García Márquez.

North America is full of natural wonders, but few inspire as much awe as Niagara Falls, the continent’s most famous waterfalls. Comprised of three separate waterfalls (Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls), Niagara’s falls can boast of the fastest flow rate in the world, dropping 6 million cubic feet of water every minute from as high as 185 feet. Situated on the border between the United States and Canada, Niagara Falls is not just a prime tourist spot but a source of hydroelectric power that attracted scientists like Nikola Tesla who hoped to harness the waterfalls’ energy. In fact, Niagara Falls is so powerful that it is eroding the ground under it, to the extent that it will cease to exist in about 50,000 years.
Even for those who have never seen it, the Grand Canyon is perhaps the most appreciated and remarkable feature of the American landscape. Indeed, the Grand Canyon has been amazing Americans since explorers first started venturing into the area in the mid-19th century. On one expedition, May Humphreys Stacey wrote in his journal of "a wonderful canyon four thousand feet deep. Everyone (in the party) admitted that he never before saw anything to match or equal this astonishing natural curiosity." Cut through by the Colorado River over the course of millions of years, the Grand Canyon is a popular destination spot that attracts millions of tourists annually, and what they come to see can be found nowhere else on the planet.
The United States is full of natural wonders, but few remain unspoiled by man as much as Yosemite National Park, a 750,000 square acre park near the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Despite being inhabited by people for nearly 3,000 years, the relatively remote spot helped ensure that even as America expanded west, the Yosemite area avoided being settled or exploited like so many other areas on the frontier.
