Sinossi

Mastering Embedded Linux Development is designed to be both a learning resource and a reference for your embedded Linux projects. In this fourth edition, you'll learn the fundamental elements that underpin all embedded Linux projects: the toolchain, the bootloader, the kernel, and the root filesystem. First, you will download and install a pre-built toolchain. After that, you will cross-compile each of the remaining three elements from scratch and learn to automate the process using Buildroot and the Yocto Project. The book progresses with coverage of over-the-air software updates and rapid prototyping with add-on boards. Two new chapters tackle modern development practices, including Python packaging and deploying containerized applications. These are followed by a chapter on writing multithreaded code and another on techniques to manage memory efficiently. The final chapters demonstrate how to debug your code, whether it resides in user space or in the Linux kernel itself. In addition to GNU debugger (GDB), the book also covers the different tracers and profilers that are available for Linux so that you can quickly pinpoint any performance bottlenecks in your system.By the end of this book, you will be able to create efficient and secure embedded devices with Linux that will delight your users.

If you could pose one question to a dolphin, what would it be? And what might a dolphin ask you? For forty years, researcher and author Denise L. Herzing has investigated these and related questions of marine mammal communication. But the dolphins are not the only ones talking, and in this wide-ranging and accessible book, Herzing explores the astonishing realities of interspecies communication, a skill that humans currently lack.

Is Anyone Listening? connects research on dolphin communication to findings from Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Dian Fossey on mountain gorillas, Cynthia Moss on African elephants, and others driving today's exploration of possible animal languages. As Herzing reveals, researchers are finding fascinating hints of language in nonhuman species, including linguistic structures, vowel equivalents, and complex repeated sequences. By looking at the many ways animals use and manipulate signals, we see that we've only just begun to appreciate the diversity of animal intelligence and the complicated and subtle aspects of animal communication.

Considering dolphins and other nonhuman animals as colleagues instead of research subjects, Herzing asks us to meet animals as both speakers and listeners, as mutually curious beings, and to listen to what they are saying.

Since first domesticating the chicken thousands of years ago, humans have become exceptionally adept at raising them for food. Yet most people rarely interact with chickens or know much about them. In Under the Henfluence, culture reporter Tove Danovich explores the lives of these quirky, mysterious birds who stole her heart the moment her first box of chicks arrived at the post office.

From a hatchery in Iowa to a chicken show in Ohio to a rooster rescue in Minnesota, Danovich interviews the people breeding, training, healing, and, most importantly, adoring chickens. With more than 26 billion chickens living on industrial farms around the world, they’re easy to dismiss as just another dinner ingredient. Yet Danovich's reporting reveals the hidden cleverness, quiet sweetness, and irresistible personalities of these birds, as well as the complex human-chicken relationship that has evolved over centuries. This glimpse into the lives of backyard chickens doesn't just help us to understand chickens better—it also casts light back on ourselves and what we've ignored throughout the explosive growth of industrial agriculture. Woven with delightful and sometimes heartbreaking anecdotes from Danovich's own henhouse, Under the Henfluence proves that chickens are so much more than what they bring to the table.

    Face size matters!
90% of the population reaches adulthood with underdeveloped midfaces and lower jaws. This causes lots of crowding—the teeth, tongue, tonsils, and adenoids are crowded. The nasal septum deviates to one side or the other, ears get congested. The airway is restricted, and the body responds by shifting into the Sympathetic Nervous System. Living in low-level sympathetic mode erodes health. This can contribute to anxiety, headaches, low thyroid, ADHD/ADD symptoms, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and many other common mental or physical health conditions.
Dr. Pomerance was part of that 90%. In About Face, she shares her Airway Dentistry expertise regarding face size and health outcomes stemming from years of continuing education, her personal health struggles, and decades of clinical experience, explaining:How facial underdevelopment happensWhat to do to avoid itHow to identify itHow to resolve the underdevelopment to restore health and wellbeing
Whether you're a dental professional or simply want to learn more about the subject to improve your quality of life, About Face provides a wealth of information and resources in an accessible, comprehensive format.

This book contains two titles, which are:
Ecology - Ecology is the branch of biology that deals with the relationships between living organisms and their interactions with their environment. This scientific discipline explores how organisms coexist within ecosystems, interact with one another, and adapt to their surroundings. The study of ecology is vital because it provides insight into the functioning of natural systems and the impact human activities have on the environment. It emphasizes the interdependence of all life forms, from microscopic bacteria to the largest animals, and underscores the intricate balance necessary for sustaining life on Earth. At its core, ecology is concerned with understanding the distribution and abundance of organisms, as well as the processes that shape these patterns. It is a multidisciplinary field that draws from biology, geography, geology, chemistry, and physics.
Environmental Science - Environmental Science is an interdisciplinary field that integrates various scientific disciplines to study the natural world and the impact of human activities on it. This branch of science explores the complex interactions between living organisms, their physical surroundings, and the broader ecosystems they form. The primary goal of environmental science is to understand how natural systems function, identify environmental problems, and develop strategies for addressing these issues. At its core, environmental science seeks to answer fundamental questions about the earth's resources, how they are used, and how human actions influence the balance of ecosystems. It draws from biology, chemistry, physics, geology, and social sciences to provide a comprehensive understanding of the environment.
