Sinossi

I shouldn't think he did, the General Secretary answered. "If I hadn't always found you a very reliable fellow-and if it wasn't for Lord Arglay-I met him once on a Commission and he seemed a very level-headed sort of man. But this.... No, I won't. The whole thing's too ridiculous.... But what the devil can it be they've got hold of? Tell me all about it again."

The first autobiography from legendary Welsh rugby player George North
George North is a true legend of Welsh rugby, an integral part of the national team for fourteen years.
Recently retired from the international game, he is the third-most-capped player in Welsh history with 121 Test appearances, the youngest player ever to reach 100 caps, and the second-highest try scorer with 47.
At club level, he has played for the Scarlets, Northampton and Ospreys, and latterly Provence in France.
North is open, charismatic, thoughtful but hugely competitive, and this is the first time he has reflected on his extraordinary career. Co-written with the brilliant sportswriter Tom Fordyce, this autobiography is an utterly compelling and enthralling retrospective, taking in George’s life growing up in Anglesey on the North Welsh coast, before he burst onto the scene when he became the youngest player ever to score a try on his debut aged just 18.
Full of heart and passion, George’s story is a uniquely inspirational insight into the art, mastery and sheer force of the game of rugby.
In his latest memoir, George North takes us on a journey through his life and career. From his upbringing in the regional setting of North Welsh coast to his rise to the top of the rugby world, this non-fiction account is a testament to his passion for the game and his relentless pursuit of excellence.

Montague Rhodes James is cited as perhaps the greatest English writer of ghost stories, an opinion few would disagree with.
James was born on 1st August 1862 at Goodnestone Parsonage in Kent, where his father was Curate but at age 3 the family went to live at Livermere, near Bury St Edmunds in East Anglia.
From early childhood he had a passion for mediaeval books and antiques. He was educated initially as a boarder at Temple Grove School in East Sheen, west London, before gaining a scholarship to Eton and thence Cambridge where he gained a double first, becoming a distinguished linguist and mediaevalist.
Before the Great War vacations were usually spent touring Europe absorbing cultures and references for his later writing.
A man of enormous knowledge it was said he timed his breakfast egg whilst he completed the Times crossword.
Many of his elegant yet terrifying tales were created by discarding the prevailing gothic cliches and placing his characters and narrative in a realistic setting. Thereby the stories gained atmosphere and menace on a grand scale and he was famed as the originator of the antiquarian ghost story.
Although story-telling and writing these 30 or so tales was a hobby, when published their effect transformed the genre and still chill the bones in our more modern times.
James was also a medievalist scholar and translator whose work remains highly respected. He was also Provost of Eton College between 1918 and 1936.
M R James died on 12th June 1936 at Eton in Buckinghamshire. He was 73.

Where do mental illness stories begin?

Anna’s always had too many feelings. Or not enough feelings – she’s never been quite sure. Debilitating panic. Extraordinary melancholy. Paranoia. Ambivalence. Fear. Despair.

From anxious child to terrified parent, mental illness has been a constant. A harsh critic in the big moments – teenage pregnancy, divorce, a dream career, falling in love – and a companion in the small ones – getting to the supermarket, feeding all her cats, remembering which child is which.

But between therapists’ rooms and emergency departments, there’s been a feeling even harder to explain … optimism.

In this sharp-eyed and illuminating memoir, award-winning writer Anna Spargo-Ryan pieces together the relationships between time, mental illness, and our brain as the keeper of our stories. Against the backdrop of her own experience, she interrogates reality, how it can be fractured, and why it’s so hard to put it back together.

Powerfully honest, tender and often funny, A Kind of Magic blends meticulous research with vivid snapshots of the stuff that breaks us, and the magic of finding ourselves again.
