Sinossi

Mark Casey, a native New Yorker and a gentleman, wants to get out of his home state and live in another part of the world. He is attracted to a small town Kentucky woman named Roxie, whom he meets on the Internet. This woman seems to be the girl of his dreams - beautiful, sensual, ambitious and funny.
After having a series of talks via the Internet and by phone, he decides to pay her a visit at her Kentucky home. The meeting is magic. They fall head over heels for each other and decide to live together. Mark packs up all of his belongings and moves into her beautiful house; anticipating a life of bliss.
But there are immediate problems as soon as he gets to his new abode. They fight, where they never did before. Roxie lies to him constantly. Their once raging sexual relationship has turned sour and they are now sleeping apart from each other. What could have caused this abyss between them, which was once a dream?
One night, when Roxie has had more than enough alcohol, she begins to tell Mark some of her past history. It seems that she was involved in the death of her own daughter. Her son-in-law mysteriously falls off a building after having a conversation with Roxie. Her trailer explodes nearly killing her husband. Eventually she accuses her husband of domestic violence and has him arrested. A senior citizen living with her and supporting her, suddenly kills himself with a shotgun.
Mark concludes that Roxie is what is called 'A Black Widow'. Unfortunately for Mark, Roxie accuses him of a heinous crime and has him arrested. While he is incarcerated, she packs up all of her possessions and his possessions, and moves out of state.
This is the true story of flagrant injustice in a small country town. These horrifying accusations strain Mark's family and friends trust, while calling their most cherished beliefs into serious question. The story rapidly moves along and tracks the actions of Mark himself, as well as the motivations of the calculating Roxie, the local police force, the Kentucky State Police, the county attorney, the Kentucky Attorney General and even the legal tenets of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. While many truths are revealed, also exposed is the extent that some will go to dominate, possess, hold power and even cover-up their actions. This story runs from where it all began, up to Mark's jury trial on crimes he didn't commit.
For anyone who has ever dreamed of living in small-town USA and getting away from the rat-race of metropolis, this tale of one man's battle against the good 'ol boys may cause you to reconsider possibilities in a new light.

  • The Poetry of Algeron Charles Swinburne - Trailblazing writer whose worked often touched on taboo topics of Victorian times - cover

    The Poetry of Algeron Charles...

Algernon Charles Swinburne was born on April 5th, 1837, in London, into a wealthy Northumbrian family. He was educated at Eton and at Balliol College, Oxford, but did not complete a degree.
In 1860 Swinburne published two verse dramas but achieved his first literary success in 1865 with Atalanta in Calydon, written in the form of classical Greek tragedy. The following year "Poems and Ballads" brought him instant notoriety. He was now identified with "indecent" themes and the precept of art for art's sake.
Although he produced much after this success in general his popularity and critical reputation declined. The most important qualities of Swinburne's work are an intense lyricism, his intricately extended and evocative imagery, metrical virtuosity, rich use of assonance and alliteration, and bold, complex rhythms.
Swinburne's physical appearance was small, frail, and plagued by several other oddities of physique and temperament. Throughout the 1860s and 1870s he drank excessively and was prone to accidents that often left him bruised, bloody, or unconscious. Until his forties he suffered intermittent physical collapses that necessitated removal to his parents' home while he recovered.
Throughout his career Swinburne also published literary criticism of great worth. His deep knowledge of world literatures contributed to a critical style rich in quotation, allusion, and comparison. He is particularly noted for discerning studies of Elizabethan dramatists and of many English and French poets and novelists. As well he was a noted essayist and wrote two novels.
In 1879, Swinburne's friend and literary agent, Theodore Watts-Dunton, intervened during a time when Swinburne was dangerously ill. Watts-Dunton isolated Swinburne at a suburban home in Putney and gradually weaned him from alcohol, former companions and many other habits as well.
Much of his poetry in this period may be inferior but some individual poems are exceptional; "By the North Sea," "Evening on the Broads," "A Nympholept," "The Lake of Gaube," and "Neap-Tide."
Swinburne lived another thirty years with Watts-Dunton. He denied Swinburne's friends access to him, controlled the poet's money, and restricted his activities. It is often quoted that 'he saved the man but killed the poet'.
Swinburne died on April 10th, 1909 at the age of seventy-two.

Our senses revel in the incomparable majesty of the work of Mother Nature. The structure of the landscape, the multi-coloured mantle of trees and fauna, the myriad animals that wander and inhabit this glorious Earth. Nature conducts symphonies of sound as her world goes from day into the inky embrace of night.

Our ears and eyes are constantly bathed in the wonder of her ways; the soft drizzle of rain from soft grey clouds, a wave caressing the shore and the ravenous colours of a departing sunset.

Her invisible heartbeat is everywhere and for everyone. Indeed, whenever we look and listen to the vastness of Nature’s beauty she can placate our anger and soothe our pain, despite our knowledge of her destructive forces that create myriad tragedies. Still her vistas can energise us, feed our hearts and souls and prompt us to muse on the mysteries of life and death.
