Sinossi

In the spring of 1972 a twenty-year-old kid from California took off to see the world. His journeys led him down the East African coast and across several oceans to a magical Caribbean island and the building of a beautiful boat. This schooner, christened Water Pearl, was owned in part by the legendary musician Bob Dylan. "I'm either on the West Coast or in New York or down in the Caribbean. Me and another guy own a boat down there," he once said. Finally, after forty years, here is the story of how through a cosmic chain of events this remarkable tale came to pass.

Since the beginning of human interaction, there have been storytellers who have spun tales to inspire and capture the imagination. In homage to Golding's Lord of the Flies and the act of flinging a gauntlet before a duel, these two writers, Gordon Bonnet, and Marlon S. Hayes, have shown their multi-genre talents.
Two guys in a bar, grandmas, fathers and sons, and myths are a few of the themes in this collection, and the results are noteworthy, entertaining, and soul filling. What if an opportunity arose to have a conversation with one's younger self? Or, what if the pictures on the wall started whispering warnings? Ever imagined how an orc might view humans? What about an epic road trip across America's heartland where anger and grief also ride along? Exactly.
It's a duel of well-written short stories, with each writer inspiring the other to continue to ascend with their storytelling skills. It's not a competition, simply an acknowledgement of each other's talents.

For the next twenty-five years of his life, Luciano was a legend---but a fake master criminal without real power, his evil reputation manipulated and maintained by the government agents who had put him behind bars. Drawing on secret government documents from archives in the United States and Europe, this myth-busting biography tells the real story from Luciano's early days as a top hit man for the Mob to his exploits running sex and narcotics empires. His criminal career abruptly ended with conviction and imprisonment, but his reputation was only enhanced by rumors that he was winning World War II for the Allies in Sicily and the Mediterranean. Now, for the first time, author Tim Newark exposes the truth about what Luciano really did do to help the Allies in the war. With his expulsion from the United States after the war ended, Luciano returned to Italy. He was reputed to have overseen a massive transatlantic narcotics network and became the arch-villain for international law enforcement agencies. But Newark reveals how Luciano really spent his twilight years. This “fun primer on California’s macabre and eccentric history” explores true crimes, paranormal reports, and other curious tales from the Pacific Coast (Paul Koudounaris).   California has many famous wonders—the beaches, vineyards, and glamorous neighborhoods are all well documented in guidebooks. But there are darker wonders here as well—the kind seldom shared with outsiders. In Creepy California historian Kevin McQueen explores strange tales of unexplained deaths, intentional live burials, true crimes, and ghosts who haunt the Pacific Coast.   From the uncanny to the outright paranormal, this chronicle of oddities includes the story of a coroner who “borrowed” the stylish clothes of a dead man and then sold the corpse’s head to a doctor; a rare look inside Stanford University’s secret collection of occult memorabilia; the tale of a haunted, two-story house in San Francisco that was painstakingly moved across town in an effort to dislodge its ghostly tenants; a profile of a lonesome Fort Bragg resident who carved a family for himself out of wood; and many others.   An intriguing look at the Golden State’s bounty of unsettling curiosities, Creepy California promises to keep you guessing what other mysteries lurk in the fog.
