Sinossi

"Grounding Therapy" explores the science behind earthing, or grounding, and its potential health benefits. The book delves into how direct contact with the Earth's natural electrical charge can reduce inflammation, improve sleep, and boost overall well-being.

Modern lifestyles often disconnect us from this primal connection due to shoes and insulated environments. Restoring this connection may offer a natural way to combat chronic diseases and promote health. For instance, the book highlights how grounding can act as a natural antioxidant, neutralizing harmful free radicals in the body.

The book systematically progresses by first explaining the fundamental concepts of grounding and the Earth's electrical properties. It then examines the scientific evidence supporting grounding's anti-inflammatory effects, drawing upon studies that measure changes in inflammatory markers. Finally, it explores grounding's impact on sleep, stress, and circadian rhythms, detailing how it can help regulate cortisol levels and promote deeper, more restorative sleep.

The approach is informative and balanced, presenting scientific findings in an accessible manner for those interested in natural health and holistic approaches to well-being.

Why does pain continue long after an injury has healed? Why can scans look “normal” when the pain feels anything but?
In Beyond the Hurt, Consultant in Pain Medicine Dr Murli Krishna offers a clear, compassionate explanation of why pain can become chronic — and what that really means.
This audiobook explores how the nervous system processes pain, how it can become overprotective, and why persistent pain does not necessarily mean ongoing damage. Using accessible language and grounded neuroscience, Dr Krishna explains central sensitisation, the role of sleep and stress, why pain can spread or fluctuate, and why treatments sometimes help — and sometimes don’t.
Importantly, this is not a book about pushing through pain or thinking positively. It is about understanding how the body’s alarm system works — and how it can learn to feel safe again.
    Listeners will gain:
    • A clear explanation of chronic pain mechanisms
    • Reassurance when scans and tests are normal
    • Insight into flare-ups and setbacks
    • Practical guidance on calming the pain system
    • A realistic, hopeful framework for recovery
Written for people living with ongoing pain — as well as clinicians, therapists, and caregivers — this audiobook replaces fear with understanding and confusion with clarity.
Persistent pain is not imagined. It has reasons.
And when pain becomes less mysterious, it often becomes less frightening.
Beyond the Hurt offers direction, reassurance, and a science-based path toward living well beyond pain.

    Conversations for skeptics

How real is reality? Are our images of the world mere inventions or do they correspond to an external reality? Is it possible to know the truth?

These are some of the questions that are discussed in this book by physicist and philosopher Heinz von Foerster and media studies scholar Bernhard Poerksen. Together they explore the limits of our cognitive capacities; they debate the apparent objectivity of our sensual perception and the consequences of "truth terrorism"; and they talk about the relationship between knowledge and ethics, sight and insight.
    The authors:
Heinz von Foerster (1911–2002) completed his studies of physics in Vienna and worked at different research labs before emigrating to the United States in 1949. In 1957, at the University of Illinois, he established the Biological Computer Lab (BCL) – the cradle of the epistemology that would later cause a stir under the label of "constructivism." The focus was on analyzing the logical and methodological problems that in evitably arise when one seeks to know knowledge. He is the author of numerous books, including Understanding Understanding: Essays on Cybernetics and Cognition.
Bernhard Poerksen is professor of media studies at the University of Tübingen with a particular research interest in the new media age. His books about systemic thinking have been translated into many languages. In 2008 he was voted "Professor of the Year" in honor of his teaching. His most recent book publications in English include From Being to Doing: The Origins of the Biology of Cognition (with Humberto Maturana), The Unleashed Scandal: The End of Control in the Digital Age (with Hanne Detel), and Digital Fever: Taming the Big Business of Disinformation.
