Summary

Legal Clinic Experience explores the transformative potential of student-run legal clinics, highlighting their dual role in shaping future lawyers and serving vulnerable populations. These clinics address the critical need for access to justice by providing legal services to underserved communities, while simultaneously offering law students invaluable experiential learning opportunities. A key insight is how these clinics bridge the gap between theoretical legal education and practical application, developing essential lawyering skills like client interviewing and courtroom advocacy.

The book systematically examines the evolution and pedagogical advantages of legal clinics, supported by empirical evidence and case studies. It delves into the ethical responsibilities inherent in representing real clients, including issues of confidentiality and conflicts of interest. Furthermore, it investigates the clinics' community impact, analyzing case outcomes and contributions to social justice.

This approach offers a holistic view of clinical legal education, emphasizing its value in promoting ethical practice and addressing systemic inequalities. The book progresses from the history of legal clinics to their pedagogical benefits, ethical considerations, and community impact, before concluding with future directions. This comprehensive approach makes it a valuable resource for law students, legal educators, and policymakers interested in innovative legal education and expanding access to justice.

Leaders are expected to be strong, dynamic, intelligent, and level-headed. As a leader, you may feel compelled to embody a "superhuman" standard or make personal sacrifices in order to get a project done well and on time. You might ignore the warning signs of mental health issues such as sleeplessness and fatigue. And, to make matters worse, you may rely on unhealthy behaviors such as consuming alcohol to deal with the overwhelming stress of daily life. So, how can you break this destructive cycle, prioritize your mental health, and optimize performance?

This workbook offers skills and strategies based in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), as well as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), to soothe stress, avoid exhaustion, and build the resilience required to show up as your best self. You'll gain a greater understanding of the specific psychological challenges inherent in leadership positions, the emotional toll it takes professionally and personally, and—most importantly—how to manage these challenges effectively.

As a leader, admitting that you are struggling can be difficult. You may have feelings of shame, or fears of being stigmatized. But when weighed against the increasing costs to your mental, physical, and emotional well-being, you simply can't afford to ignore it!

“Suneel Gupta shares how to chisel away the everyday layers that prevent us from clarity and joy. Written with compassion and wit, you will find yourself within its pages, and by the book’s end, it’s very possible that you will have uncovered just what most lights the fire within you.” —Sharon Salzberg, New York Times bestselling author of Lovingkindness and Real Life
Find your Dharma—your inner calling—and learn to integrate ambition, work, and wellbeing to create a balanced, joyous life with this practical, life-changing guide from the beloved speaker, bestselling author, and visiting scholar at Harvard Medical School.
We’ve been conditioned, from an early age, to believe that one day we’ll reach a moment of “arrival.” But no matter how much we achieve or acquire we still don’t feel as satisfied or as fulfilled as we thought we would be. Exhausted, we become burned out and cynical, questioning the purpose of it all.
An expert on happiness and work, Suneel Gupta argues that for too long society has been fixated on the Future of Work and ignored the Future of Worth. We’ve compartmentalized work and well-being and ignored the fact that both are essential for sustained success. We’ve assumed that outer success leads to inner well-being–despite history showing us that this has never been the case.
In Everyday Dharma, Suneel helps us break this negative cycle. A captivating storyteller, he weaves personal stories, history, science, Eastern philosophy, and Western modalities in this engaging, enlightening, and prescriptive book. He begins by helping us identify our dharma, the essence of who we are. When you’re in your Dharma, you feel confident, creative, and caring, with a sense of purpose, and that shines through your life and work.
Everyday Dharma provides an accessible three-step approach to discovering, understanding, and living your “sacred calling.” At its center are self-assessments to help you identify your passions and powerful rituals for building new habits—ancient practices supported by science and found in diverse cultural sources, including Toni Morrison’s novels, Jimi Hendrix’s lyrics, and Frida Kahlo’s paintings, and used by the likes of Nelson Mandela, Dr. Martin Luther King, and Mahatma Gandhi.
Finding your dharma empowers you to let go of anxiety, follow your wildest ambitions, produce your life’s work, and experience true joy.

Medal of Honor recipient Jack H. Lucas’s classic memoir of his heroics at the Battle of Iwo Jima—with a foreword by Bob Dole and reissued to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the battle in 2020.

On February 20, 1945, the second day of the assault on Iwo Jima—one of the bloodiest battles of the Pacific theater in World War II—Private Jack Lucas, who was only seventeen, and three other Marines engaged in a close-proximity firefight with Japanese soldiers. When two enemy grenades landed in their trench, Lucas jumped on one and pulled the other under his body to save the lives of his comrades. Lucas was blown into the air as his body was torn apart by 250 entrance wounds. He was so severely wounded that his team left him for dead. Miraculously, he survived.
While on the hospital ship Samaritan, his spirit soared to see the American flag flying atop Mount Suribachi—the same flag immortalized in Joe Rosenthal’s iconic photograph, Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima. Lucas endured twenty-one grueling surgeries and carried 200 pieces of shrapnel in his body for the rest of his life. Awarded the Medal of Honor, he became the youngest Marine in U.S. history—and the youngest of all World War II servicemen—to receive the honor.
Indestructible tells the remarkable story of an extraordinary American possessed with a fierce determination to serve his country.
