Sinossi

Better Man describes one man's journey through romantic relationships.  The author navigates college, graduate school, and then present day as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor.  This book is a story about love, heartbreak, and the difficult lessons learned while traveling the treacherous road of dating.  Striving to become a better man, the author learns about his own values, what he's looking for in a partner, and that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is run.  Getting through break-ups, navigating partners with differing values, and having the realization that just because sparks fly when you meet doesn’t always mean it’s meant to be – these are just a few of the harder truths the author learns along the way.  Better Man is not a better-than-revenge book, geared towards making fun of exes or blaming the innocent.  It’s a first-hand account of three major relationships, told through the eyes of the author as he experienced them.  There’s a shift in perspective from one’s early 20’s into their mid-30’s, and realizations are made…past experiences are seen with a newly discovered clarity.

As the author gets further in his study of psychology and gains a greater understanding of things like communication and what it means for a relationship to be ‘healthy’, his relationships continue to grow increasingly toxic.  Will he throw in the towel and simply decide it’s best to assume he’s had his last kiss?  Or dust himself off and begin again?  If this was a movie, should it end like a fairytale or something more sad…beautiful…tragic?  Will the author end up healing from his past relationships and become the better man he set out to be?  Or be forever haunted?

Let’s hope there’s a hopeless ‘new’ romantic on the other side of the door…so to speak…now...on to the story of us…

Wilhelm Meister’s Apprenticeship is a seminal German novel that follows the journey of its titular character as he navigates love, theater, and personal growth in 18th-century society. Disillusioned with his merchant life, Wilhelm joins a troupe of actors, seeking purpose through art and romance. His experiences lead him through complex relationships, moral dilemmas, and encounters with enigmatic figures who shape his understanding of self and duty. Blending realism with philosophical depth, Goethe explores themes of identity, vocation, and the pursuit of fulfillment. Often considered one of the first bildungsroman novels, it profoundly influenced European literature, offering timeless insights into human development and the shaping of character through experience.

    Sound N’ Fury - Rock N’ Roll...

Most rock ’n’ roll books are a bore. They all have the same narrative arc and are aimed at the dwindling following that now follows an artist that has long passed their AARP date.

Sound N’ Fury does not have a story arc. It is a collection of anecdotes, like a record comprised of various tracks — each one has its point and purpose. Alan Niven, who guided Guns N’ Roses from the gutter of Los Angeles to Wembley Stadium, shares stories from his remarkable life as a manager with an immediacy delivered by an extraordinary recall of dialogue. Readers will encounter not just Guns N’ Roses (who have sold almost 10 million tickets to their shows) but The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Clarence Clemons, Whitesnake, Elton John, and others who came from humble origins and experienced fame known only to few. Small-town minds collided with worldwide adulation, expectations, and demands. The results are amusing, affirming, and, predictably, disastrous. Keep in mind that rock ’n’ roll is God’s occupation for the unemployable.

Written with a crisp and fluid style, the magnificence and idiocy of the music world will dance off the pages and engross even those who are not rock fans.

The first full biography of James Montgomery, who through his actions before and during the Civil War, contributed towards the abolition of slavery.James Montgomery was a leader of the free-state movement in pre-Civil War Kansas and Missouri, associated with its direct-action military wing. He then joined the Union Army and fought through most of the war. A close associate and ally of other abolitionists including John Brown, Harriet Tubman, Colonels Thomas Wentworth Higginson and Robert G. Shaw, Montgomery led his African-American regiment along with Tubman and other civilians in the 1863 Combahee River raid, which freed almost 800 slaves from South Carolina plantations. He then commanded a brigade in the siege of Fort Wagner, near Charleston. In 1864, still in brigade command, he fought at the Battle of Olustee in Florida, helping prevent the collapse and disintegration of Union General Truman Seymour’s army. Later that year he returned home and played a significant role in defeating Confederate General Sterling Price’s great raid, especially at the Battle of Westport. This is the first published biography of Montgomery, who was and remains a controversial figure. It uncovers and deals honestly with his serious flaws, while debunking some wilder charges, and also bringing to light his considerable attributes and achievements. Montgomery’s life, from birth to death, is seen in the necessary perspective and clear delineation of the complex racial, political and military history of the Civil War era.

Once a killing ground for whalers hunting a leviathan they called the "devilfish," the San Ignacio Lagoon in Baja, Mexico, is now an environmental and spiritual sanctuary—the only place in the world where animals in their natural aquatic environment routinely seek out human contact. A nursery for the gray whale since before recorded history, the lagoon and its stories, told here by James Michael Dorsey, illuminate the magic of human connection to animals, and what those bonds teach us about ourselves and our purpose on this shared planet.

Weaving two decades of San Ignacio adventures with the history of the lagoon, Dorsey vividly captures the lively people of Baja, like the mystical godfather of whale-watching, Pachico Mayoral, as well as the whales he's bonded with over the years, like Slackjaw, Patch, and Dervish. Looming over his journeys are the many dangers to the area, from the Mitsubishi Corporation's attempts to build salt works to plans for resort development on the Baja coast, to pollution and climate change, and even to the orcas who hunt the gray whales.

A tale of wondrous bonds between the intelligent, spirited gray whales and the people from around the world who come to this place to touch, kiss, and play with them—The Lagoon is a testament to the importance of preserving these animals and their natural habitats.
