Sinossi

English language education that wants to be relevant for today's learners in a media-influenced social environment needs to include series and serials. Our publication enables (future) language teachers to implement series and serials in their English language classrooms purposefully and equip their learners with series_serials literacy, i.e. the ability to deal with series and serials in an autonomous and critical manner. Three introductory chapters provide substantial theoretical and conceptual considerations on serial narratives, objectives and methods of teaching series and serials. Subsequently, experts in the field of language teaching introduce 17 selected series and serials from different genres, ranging from comedies to sci-fi. Each chapter provides in-depth analyses of the chosen example as well as practical teaching suggestions which are accessible online.

Speaking My Soul is the honest story of linguist John R. Rickford's life from his early years as the youngest of ten children in Guyana to his status as Emeritus Professor of Linguistics at Stanford, of the transformation of his identity from colored or mixed race in Guyana to black in the USA, and of his work championing Black Talk and its speakers.

In this engaging memoir, Rickford recalls landmark events for his racial identity like being elected president of the Black Student Association at the U of California, Santa Cruz; learning from black expeditions to the South Carolina Sea Islands, Jamaica, Belize, and Ghana; and meeting or interviewing civil rights icons like Huey P. Newton, Rosa Parks, and South African Dennis Brutus. He worked with Rachel Jeantel, Trayvon Martin's friend and key witness in the trial of George Zimmerman for his murder. Zimmerman's exoneration sparked the Black Lives Matter movement.

This is the account of a former director of African and African American studies whose work has increased our understanding of the richness of African American language and our awareness of the education and criminal justice challenges facing African-Americans. It is key for students and faculty in linguistics, mixed-race studies, African American studies, and social justice.

In order to get a better grip over the new expressions in Spanish, in track one you hear the Spanish word twice.Next, you have a word followed by a contextual sentence, again in both translation options (tracks 3 and 4). Then you move on to complete sentences (tracks 5 and 6). ). Again, in track 5, you will hear the sentence in Spanish twice Once you have mastered translating sentences from English into Spanish (lesson 6) in the time gap before the English translation, you have won. The words alone will help you in understanding the meaning, but using the mastered complete sentences will help you communicate much better. There is a script to this course available for free download at www.audioacademyeu.eu which will make your activities with the course much more effective. In its introduction, you will find a learning guide along with helpful tips on how to make the lessons more effective and a lesson plan for you to record your learning progress.
