Sinossi

Abraham Stoker (1847-1912), better known by his pen name Bram Stoker, was an Irish theatre manager, writer, novelist and Freemason. He became famous as the author of Dracula (1897), an epistolary Gothic horror novel widely considered a landmark in vampire literature. The work deeply influenced future representations of fictional vampiric characters, and Stoker came to be regarded by many as "the father of vampire fiction".The Burial of the Rats, the short horror story by Bram Stoker which we offer to our readers today, was first published in the United Kingdom in the January 26, 1896 and February 2, 1896 issues of Lloyd's Weekly Newspaper, London. It was first published in book form in 1914 in Stoker's third collection of short stories Dracula's Guest And Other Weird Stories. The Burial of the Rats, follows a narrator who, separated from his father and love interest after a mysterious encounter, is forced to navigate a dangerous, labyrinthine district of Paris ruled by a macabre group of ancient, skeletal figures who utilize a horde of rats to menace him. The story is an early work of Stoker's, notable for its chilling depiction of primal fear and survival, and for the way it uses the setting of a chaotic, refuse-filled district to explore themes of societal decay and the thin line between civilization and instinct.

There is something about the number 3.

The Ancient Greeks believed 3 was the perfect number, and in China 3 has always been a lucky number, and they know a thing or two.

Most religions also have 3 this and 3 that and, of course, in these more modern times, three’s a crowd may be too many, except when it’s a ménage à trois. It seems good things usually come in threes.

Whatever history and culture says WE think 3, a hat-trick of stories, is a great number to explore themes and literary avenues that classic authors were so adept at creating.

The Shadow Out of Time is a novella by American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft. Written between November 1934 and February 1935, it was first published in the June 1936 issue of Astounding Stories. The story describes time and space travel by mind transfer. The premise is that a person in a given place and time can switch bodies with someone who is elsewhere or elsewhen. Other writers have re-used this concept in later works, such as drinking tea from Red Forest leaves in the television series 12 Monkeys and long-range communication stones in the Stargate SG-1 television series. As with other Lovecraftian works, this story features otherworldy alien beings that are not simply variations on humans or other familiar terrestrial animals.

The old-world may well be dead and gone, but she will never give in to the madness. Right is right. She can never give up the fight. Her father certainly hadn't. Now she watches as AOA sends team after team back to earth to obtain specimens to possibly synthesize an antidote to the hordes of zombies that now claim the faces of those she once knew.
