Sinopsis

In "Comic History of England," Bill Nye employs a unique blend of humor and satire to explore the rich tapestry of English history, portraying events and figures with a light-hearted yet insightful lens. Through witty anecdotes, clever illustrations, and an engaging narrative style, Nye transforms complex historical occurrences into accessible tales, making the past both entertaining and informative. This work stands as a testament to Nye's ability to bridge the gap between rigorous historical scholarship and popular entertainment, resonating within the literary context of late 19th-century America when humor was increasingly employed to critique and analyze society. Bill Nye, a prominent humorist, journalist, and author born in 1850, drew inspiration from his own experiences in a rapidly changing America, mirroring societal shifts and historical reflections in his work. His keen observations of human nature and penchant for comedy were instrumental in crafting this book, which sought to engage and amuse readers while prompting them to reflect on the enigmas of English heritage. Nye's background in the editorial field and his encounters with various societal classes enriched his perspective, allowing him to infuse humor into historical narratives. "Comic History of England" is highly recommended for readers seeking both amusement and enlightenment about English history. Nye's ability to entertain while educating makes this work a delightful addition to any literary collection. The world is changing, it's getting increasingly more difficult to be a young person and to raise young people. Without a plan to navigate the change, you'll end up in ice-cold water you thought was warm. We get so attached to the identity of being a student, or an athlete, or the fact that we'll never be young again that we end up losing sight of what we can sustain long-term.
If you're in school now in your 20s, it's likely you're performing at less than 50% of your maximum potential. This book will help you pump those numbers up.
The Four Year Fantasy explores how College and University life can shape young adults in irreversible ways (GOOD and BAD). It outlines the skewed notions of what "the experience" is, and is meant to wake people up before they waste their "Superhuman years." This book offers insights on how to seize opportunities for personal growth and outlines the author's journey to success which includes breakthrough realizations that came from navigating the world with the social proof of a University student.

A cultural history of the goddess of love, from a New York Times bestselling and award-winning historian.Aphrodite was said to have been born from the sea, rising out of a froth of white foam. But long before the Ancient Greeks conceived of this voluptuous blonde, she existed as an early spirit of fertility on the shores of Cyprus -- and thousands of years before that, as a ferocious warrior-goddess in the Middle East. Proving that this fabled figure is so much more than an avatar of commercialized romance, historian Bettany Hughes reveals the remarkable lifestory of one of antiquity's most potent myths.Venus and Aphrodite brings together ancient art, mythology, and archaeological revelations to tell the story of human desire. From Mesopotamia to modern-day London, from Botticelli to Beyoncé, Hughes explains why this immortal goddess continues to entrance us today -- and how we trivialize her power at our peril.

In this 2024 conversation with Travis Glen Sebera, Schwartz explores what the Internal Family Systems [IFS] model encompasses and how healing our own inner world can create ripples of compassion that extend from ourselves to our communities. These internal parts of the self can debilitate us with paralyzing fear, shame, feelings of not being good enough, and other enfeebling influences. Schwartz describes the goal of IFS is to help the internal parts of the self to transform from their extreme states into who they're designed to be. He gives several examples of how he works with people such as care-givers who also become incapacitated by arthritis, or highly driven corporate executives who are overly dependent on achieving goals, as well as working with those who suffer from shame. He acknowledges that these parts are neither good nor bad and each can have wonderful qualities. His work is to encourage people to listen to these parts with spaciousness and personal curiosity so as to ultimately live a more balanced life.
Richard C. Schwartz, Ph.D. is the creator of the therapeutic model known as Internal Family Systems [IFS] and founder of the IFS Institute which offers training for professionals and the general public. Formerly an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois at Chicago and later at Northwestern University, he is currently on the faculty of Harvard Medical School. He is the author of many books including:No Bad Parts: Healing Trauma, and Restoring Wholeness with The Internal Family Systems Model (Sounds True 2021)

There are many challenges in the teenage years. Young people often feel pressure to achieve at school. They struggle to negotiate social intricacies. They battle to understand and deal with their own internal emotional world.
And, on top of all this, they ponder how they will carve out their future.
Teen Time is written for teenagers. Topics of interest are easily selected and the reader is encouraged to consider a range of perspectives for situations they find challenging.
Covering a wide range of issues presented frequently in counselling sessions by 13-17 year olds, Teen Time invites teenagers to make time for self-reflection, and to consider alternative possibilities, rather than acting on impulse. It encourages them to choose how they want to be in every area of their life.
Helen Middleton, a psychologist in private practice, draws on her extensive experience in working with young people as a teacher, secondary school Guidance Officer, gestalt and family therapist. She addresses the hopes and concerns commonly expressed by teenagers. This user-friendly guide is judgement-free, practical, and relatable.
Because it details the many issues confronting teenagers, Teen Time is also a valuable resource for parents, teachers, beginning counsellors, social workers, and youth workers.
    About the Author
Helen Middleton gained a Master’s degree in Education Studies in 1993, and worked as a Guidance Officer in Queensland schools for 15 years. During this time she continued her studies and completed a post-graduate training program in family therapy. She became a Registered Psychologist and completed a second Master’s degree in 2006 in Gestalt Therapy. The same year, Helen moved to Hobart and worked in EAP programs and in private practice. Missing work with young people, she took on regular days at Headspace in 2009, working with 12–26 year olds.
