Sinossi

In "The Mill of Silence," Bernard Capes weaves a haunting narrative that explores the intricate dynamics of human emotion amidst the backdrop of a desolate mill, serving as a potent metaphor for isolation and despair. Capes employs a meticulous literary style, rich with atmospheric descriptions and an undercurrent of tension, merging elements of Gothic fiction with psychological depth. The novel, published during the early 20th century, reflects the era's fascination with the darker aspects of the human psyche, drawing parallels with contemporary societal anxieties and existential ponderings. Bernard Capes, an English author admired for his short stories and novels, often delved into themes of the supernatural and the macabre. His own experiences, including a career as an artist and his exposure to the complexities of human nature, notably influenced his storytelling. Capes' literary journey, marked by encounters with both beauty and tragedy, allowed him to authentically explore themes of isolation and the haunting silence of unexpressed thoughts and feelings in this striking work. Readers who appreciate a rich tapestry of Gothic elements interwoven with psychological insight will find "The Mill of Silence" an engrossing read. This novel invites introspection and encourages readers to reflect on the intricacies of despair and the unspoken burdens that accompany the human experience.

from Zoe Michaels," read a reaper to another his father.
"Aww! That sounds cute," said the king of the Reapers hearing it.
"No one calls me a fairy! Even a misinformed child," said the son known as Lance or the Necromancer shortly.
"Do you prefer serial killer!" asked his father.
Lance scoffed. "I prefer avenging angel," said Lance coldly he was fate's hitman he killed the worst of the worst for him and the police called him a serial killer.
"You would," said the reaper king, "How was the child when you took her?"
"She was a pain she insisted I was the Death Fairy because the tooth fairy took teeth so the reapers were death fairies because they took the dead. I keep telling her I wasn't the death fairy I was a grim reaper. she wouldn't listen. I told her she wasn't going to heaven. She cried. I told her she was going Elysian she cried more. I asked her why she cried.
She told me she was sad to hear queen Elsa was dead too. Kids!" Lance said frustratedly.

The dead don’t come back, but some never leave…
Jack Kelly remembers everything about his wife and children. The wonderful smell of his wife’s hair, the way she whispers to him at night. His three children running through the house, the sound of their laughter.
That was his life before the accident. His near-death experience left him in the in-between space, somewhere between this world and whatever comes next. But he recovered and woke up as his thirteen-year-old self.
The doctors tell him it is a false memory, a result of his fall and the insult to his brain from his injuries.
“How can a thirteen-year-old boy have a wife and three children?” They ask.
But how can he see and hear dead people, demons, ghosts, and shadowy creatures? And if they exist, then is it so inconceivable to believe that Jack’s life as a 47-year-old man with a wife and children existed too?
Jack begins his journey to find out why and how. And, in the end, he resolves to find his way back to his true existence, back to his family.
The Book of Souls is the first book in the series. The Book of Demons is coming…

The world ended. Then things got tough.

Shane Collins and Lucas Maddox are the last two US Marshals after a global cataclysm that destroyed most of modern civilization. They're still on the job, fighting the good fight, although they're no longer fully human and maybe not entirely sane.

Witches and werewolves were not covered in their training as US Marshals. Then again, neither was the Apocalypse.

It's hard enough trying to navigate a new world of monsters, magic, and no decent takeout. Then there's the strange magic corrupting the land that affects them more now that Shane is tied to the collections of magical energy throughout the countryside, and Lucas has an ancient elemental spirit riding shotgun in his head.

Yeah, they never mentioned this stuff in training.

The Wasteland Marshals series is an action-packed near-future post-apocalyptic thriller full of grim ghosts, legendary creatures, shifters, and elemental spirits, brave survivors, loyal friends, and found family. This omnibus includes the first four novellas: Wasteland Marshals, Witch of the Woods, Ghost of the Past, and Shutdown Crew.
