Uncover the mysteries of ancient civilizations and their metropolises, learning how environmental changes and societal factors contributed to their abandonment. The book highlights how studying these lost cities offers invaluable lessons for contemporary urban planning and global sustainability, providing insights into the cyclical nature of civilization.

Delving into detailed case studies, the narrative examines cities swallowed by jungles, like Angkor, and those buried beneath deserts, such as Ubar, scrutinizing the impact of environmental pressures and resource depletion.

Discover submerged settlements, such as Pavlopetri, analyzing the catastrophic geological events that led to their demise. Adopting a holistic approach, Lost Cities integrates archaeological findings with historical accounts and environmental data. Each chapter meticulously presents architectural remains, written records, and material culture to reconstruct the lives and achievements of past inhabitants.

"The Singing Earth: Adventures From A World Of Music" is a collection of musical adventure stories from Grammy-winning musician, writer, and ethnomusicologist Barrett Martin. The book chronicles Barrett's work in 14 musical regions, across 6 continents, over the course of 30 years. It starts with his involvement in the 1990s Seattle music scene and then explores songlines and seatrails in Australia and New Zealand; trance drumming in Central America; Griot music in West Africa; musical diplomacy in Cuba; touring with a Brazilian rock band; recording the Shipibo Shamans in the Peruvian Amazon; recording in the occupied Palestinian West Bank; playing with old bluesmen in the Mississippi Delta; the political power of American resistance music; and the ancient practice of bronze casting in Asian gamelan music. There is also a companion soundtrack that plays after each verse/chapter, which contains rare and original songs from Barrett's various bands, as well as field recordings from the incredible musical environments he has visited. Those who listen to the musical journey that Barrett recounts will find themselves transported through exotic global landscapes where they learn about the links between ecology, community, and music that connects us to our greater humanity.

The Seven Lamps of Architecture, published in May 1849, is an extended essay written by the English art critic and theorist John Ruskin. The 'lamps' of the title are Ruskin's principles of architecture, which he later enlarged upon in the three-volume The Stones of Venice. To an extent, they codified some of the contemporary thinking behind the Gothic Revival. At the time of its publication A.W.N. Pugin and others had already advanced the ideas of the Revival and it was well under way in practice. Ruskin offered little new to the debate, but the book helped to capture and summarise the thoughts of the movement. The Seven Lamps also proved a great popular success, and received the approval of the ecclesiologists typified by the Cambridge Camden Society, who criticised in their publication The Ecclesiologist lapses committed by modern architects in ecclesiastical commissions.
