Sinossi

"Snow Day Joy" presents a groundbreaking exploration of how winter activities and snow interaction positively impact human health and well-being, backed by comprehensive scientific research. The book reveals fascinating discoveries, including how fresh snow exposure can reduce stress hormones by up to 27%, while activities like building snow forts contribute to enhanced motor skills and spatial awareness.

Through a careful blend of sports psychology, environmental science, and behavioral research, it builds a compelling case for intentional engagement with winter environments. The book's three-section structure systematically examines the physical, psychological, and practical aspects of snow interaction.

Drawing from an impressive five-year study of 2,500 participants, it demonstrates how regular snow play correlates with improved mental health outcomes and reduced seasonal affective disorder symptoms. The research spans multiple disciplines, from thermal regulation to evolutionary biology, creating a thorough understanding of how winter activities benefit human development.

What sets this work apart is its evidence-based approach to a commonly overlooked aspect of wellness, combining academic rigor with practical applicability. While primarily focused on snowy regions, the book offers valuable insights for various climates and demographics.

Mental health professionals, educators, and winter sports enthusiasts will find particularly valuable guidance in implementing snow-based activities for optimal physical and psychological benefits, all supported by current research in sports science and environmental psychology.

Cornelia Arnolda Johanna "Corrie" ten Boom (April 15, 1892 - April 15, 1983) was a Dutch watchmaker who worked with her father Casper and other family members to help, reportedly, 800 Jews escape the Nazi Holocaust during World War II by hiding them in their home. Eventually, the family was caught, and ten Boom was arrested and sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp, but released after ten months due to a clerical error. Later in life, ten Boom wrote, "The Hiding Place," a biography that recounts the story of her family's efforts and how she was able to find hope while imprisoned at the concentration camp. It was later made in to a movie. The following is part one of a speech ten Boom gave called, Authority Over Demons.

"Guilty Prayer is most stunning for how much it fits into a small space. All of this, no doubt, in praise of Steve Henn's brilliantly malleable poetic voice, which shifts tones, moods, and paces seamlessly between pages and between lines. I love this book for how it faces me, how it speaks to me, how it trusts me with what it knows. Reading this has made me a more generous person." - Hanif Abdurraqib
"Lithium and late-life sobriety - yes, please, and a music culled from the heartland as if from the pen of some Midwestern O'Hara in a time of 'dank memes' and the still reverberating echoes of Sparklehorse. Romance and failure, puking after a first sober Thanksgiving, the ghost of a long lost love, and poetry with 'surreal teenagers.' I recognize my place in Henn's America, in these days of no advantages, shattered dreams, and enough joy and art to live a life by." - David Dodd Lee
"Steve Henn peels back sorrow to reveal other emotions coiled inside it. Humor, bewilderment, guilt, tenderness. Grief as nexus, grief as quicksilver. Death and addiction are his subjects, yes. But Henn's language, like grief, is never static: it spirals into poems that are gripping, electrifying. I felt many things reading his work. Sorrow, yes. But also awe and gratitude." - Eduardo C. What most Americans see is a single federal agency enforcing the law. What many inside experience is far more divided.

This book is a firsthand account of life inside the Bureau during a period of growing internal conflict—where dedication to public safety clashed with shifting priorities, political pressure, and decisions that placed agents at risk. Through real experiences and documented events, a former agent reveals how the mission began to change from within.

The story begins with service—training, teamwork, and the belief that the law must be applied fairly. It moves into the realities of investigating violent crime, where preparation and support are essential. As cases unfold, troubling patterns emerge: uneven enforcement, shifting standards, and leadership decisions shaped more by perception than threat.

At its core is a divide within the agency. On one side are agents committed to evidence, safety, and the Bureau’s original purpose. On the other are decisions influenced by politics and internal pressure, often at the expense of those on the ground.

This account does not rely on speculation. It draws from lived experience and operational realities, showing how dangerous missions were approved without adequate support, how accountability became uneven, and how speaking up carried consequences.

Beyond operations, it is also a human story—examining the emotional toll of violent crime, the strain of internal conflict, and the role of conscience when loyalty and integrity no longer align.

FBI’s Fighting and Political Agendas is not an attack on law enforcement, but an examination of what happens when an institution loses alignment between its values and actions—and why restoring that balance matters for those who serve and the public they protect.

This is a true account of duty under pressure, internal division, and the consequences of an agency turned inward.

An intimate, myth-shattering new biography of Mary Queen of Scots by a premier historian that draws on a trove of newly discovered sources.Queen of Scots, the first full-scale biography of Mary in more than thirty years, offers a singularly novel, nuanced, and dramatic portrait of one of history’s greatest women.
John Guy draws on sources -- many previously unstudied -- as varied as the secret communiques of English spies and Mary's own letters.
Dispelled is the ingrained popular image of Mary as a romantic leading lady, achieving her ends through feminine wiles, driven by love to murder, undone by passion and bad judgment. We come to see her as an emotionally intricate woman and an adroit diplomat, maneuvering ingeniously among a dizzying array of factions who sought to control or dethrone her. Guy's investigation of Mary's storied downfall throws sharp new light on questions that have baffled historians for centuries, and offers convincing new evidence that she was framed for the murder for which she was beheaded.
