Sinossi

This volume traces Th. More's intellectual and political connections with Spain through eight scholarly contributions. Olivares examines Erasmus's role in linking Arias Montano to More's legacy amid Counter-Reformation censorship. Cabrillana decodes More's Lucian translations to reveal his moral-aesthetic priorities, while Phelippeau juxtaposes 'Utopia' with Venetian governance models resisting Habsburg hegemony. Ureña explores digital humanities' challenges in Morean studies, and Lillo reconstructs Spanish accounts of More's trial through several manuscripts. Fuentes analyzes Mary Tudor's Erasmian translations, and Zunino maps Sevillian networks that cultivated More's posthumous reputation via Herrera's 1592 biography. The volume concludes with the editor's exploration of More and Vives' nuanced just-war theories, challenging some naive pacifist interpretations by contextualizing their pragmatic responses to Ottoman expansion. Bridging literary analysis, archival research, and transnational historiography, these essays illuminate Spain's enduring role in shaping More's critique of power and his Renaissance afterlife.

The best-selling author of The Long Haul returns with the story of ditching his truck to seek his fortune … in hemp.

After decades as a long-haul trucker, Finn Murphy left the road and settled in Boulder County, Colorado. Before long he noticed that many of his neighbors were captivated by the prospect of vast riches in “the Hemp Space.” When hemp was legalized, after eighty years in federal exile, Colorado
became the center of a hemp growing and processing boom. Figuring he’d harvest some of that easy money, Murphy bought a thirty-six-acre farm. What could go wrong? Well, pretty much everything. …

Rocky Mountain High is the comic chronicle of a wild year as Murphy follows his Great American Dream, gradually losing his shirt but not his spirit. Pivoting away from growing hemp himself, he decides to make himself a middleman. He builds drying sheds the size of football fields. He battles with
freezing temperatures and even colder bankers. And he assembles an eclectic crew of workers, including the wry and vastly talented Manuel, the business savvy Pierce, and a scruffy army of “trimmigrants”—specialized farm laborers who roam the country pursuing (or not) their own American Dreams.
Pretty soon, Murphy is burning through his cash and skirmishing with the mercurial denizens who inhabit the Wild West of the hemp market.

Told with Murphy’s trademark wit, keen eye for character, and sharp insights intothe hardscrabble society around him, Rocky Mountain High is an inside look at the alluring world of the hemp boom and a masterful tale of one entrepreneur’s misadventures.

    Cherokees of the Smoky Mountains...

The text relates the powerful and dramatic history of Smoky Mountain Cherokees, who for 40,000 years thrived in the difficult terrain of the Great Smoky Mountains and its surrounding regions areas of what is now Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. With a constitution and organized government, a written language and no economic debt, the Cherokees sought to live in relative peace. However, President Jackson and the state of Georgia thought differently, forcing the Cherokees and their devoted Chief John Ross to leave their homeland and be removed to Oklahoma in the Trail of Tears (1837-1839). Much political tension was exacerbated by the fact that a key Supreme Court ruling by Chief Justice John Marshall made clear that Georgian land grabbing of Cherokee lands was illegal. This story, and how one Cherokee Chief was sacrificed to retain a small piece of Cherokee land in the southwest corner of North Carolina, known today as Qualla Boundary, is told with passion, empathy and historical accuracy.
Horace Kephart is also the author of Our Southern Highlanders, Camping and Woodcraft and Smoky Mountain Magic, and the creator of the Kephart knife. Mount Kephart, a 6,217 foot peak just northwest of Qualla Boundary, was chosen by Kephart and designated in his lifetime. He was instrumental in the founding of the Great Smoky National Park.
This version of Cherokees of the Smoky Mountains was revised by Kephart's great granddaughter, Janice Kephart, a spoken word artist, narrator, and US government subject matter expert, having served as a 9/11 Commission counsel. Janice added context for some commentary within the text but left the writing mostly as is, added historical photographs from the Hunter Library Horace Kephart Archive at Western Carolina University and other libraries, and added a new Foreword and Introduction.

Discover the Unfiltered Voice of America.

Mark Twain was more than a humorist; he was the "Lincoln of our literature." With a sharp eye for hypocrisy and a heart for the underdog, he captured the growing pains of a young nation with unmatched wit and honesty. This comprehensive collection brings together his complete novels, tracing the journey from the muddy banks of the Mississippi to the royal courts of Europe, all seen through the lens of his signature irreverent spirit.

This collection explores the pillars of Twain's literary legacy:

The Master of the Vernacular: Experience the revolutionary use of authentic American speech, breaking away from stiff European traditions to create a literature that truly belongs to the people.

The Sharp Edge of Satire: Witness Twain's "moral compass" at work as he skewers the absurdities of slavery, class pretension, and the corruption of the Gilded Age.

Picaresque Adventure: Follow his iconic wanderers and rogues on journeys of self-discovery, where the road (or the river) serves as a classroom for life's harshest and most beautiful lessons.

Philosophical Contrast: Explore the duality of his work—the sunny, nostalgic adventures of youth contrasted with his later, more biting critiques of "the damned human race."

Twain's influence is inescapable, defining the rhythm and soul of the American story. Whether you are seeking a hilarious romp or a profound meditation on justice and freedom, this volume is an essential cornerstone for any library of classic literature and cultural history.

An Original Audiobook Production from W. F. Howes, read by the Stoltman Brothers with exclusive audio content

When Loch Morlich freezes over, we cut a hole in the ice and jump in…

Tom “The Albatross” and Luke “the Highland Oak” Stoltman are the world’s strongest brothers. Between them, they’ve won everything there is to win in the mighty world of Strongman. Tom can deadlift a 430kg bar to hip height, equivalent to about seven washing machines. Luke isn't far behind. Yet for the Stoltmans, being strong is about more than pure muscle. It's about overcoming adversity. And it's about honouring their biggest fan: their mother, who died in 2016 leaving the family devastated.

But they’ve also transcended the sport, not least through launching the hugely successful online Stoltman Strength Academy. Through it all, they’ve stayed true to their roots in the Highlands of Scotland, giving back to their community, their family, and each other.

But it wasn’t always like this. Back in 2010, Luke worked full time on oil rigs in the North Sea, and Tom was a teenager that the rest of the world had written off due to his autism.

How did two lads from Invergordon conquer the world? Simple. They started lifting.

In their astonishing autobiography, Tom and Luke Stoltman are going to show you how to lift. How to lift the lid on life with autism. How to lift yourself out of the darkness of bereavement. How to lift the trophy at the World's Strongest Man.
LIFTING is the story of two athletes pushing themselves, and each other, to the limits.

Packed with bonus audio content, you can hear Luke and Tom in conversation as they discuss training plans, life goals, favourite music tracks for the gym and most importantly – spicy food.
