  In this unique audio primer and celebration of the inspirational life and great work of revolutionary and social reformer Commandante Ernesto Rafael 'Che" Guevara de la Serna Lynch. Ernesto was born June 14, 1928, in Rosario, Argentina, in a family with aristocratic roots but strong socialistic ideals. In June of 1955 young Ernesto met Raul Castro. On July 8th Fidel Castro arrived in Mexico to join his brother and Ernesto. When Fidel met Che "he was already an educated revolutionary.” Remembers Castro. The great Cuban revolution against tyranny soon followed and was won chiefly because of the dedication of the Castros and Dr. Guevara. On October 8, 1967, in the village La Higuera, Bolivia, Che, and two comrades fell into the hands of the army. A Bolivian colonel and the representatives of the CIA arrived by helicopter. It was decided to murder Che and his comrades Willy Cuba and Juan Pablo Chang immediately. A nervous, young low-level Bolivian soldier did the job, Che, the icon and hero of all hearts and minds, however, live forever!

  The History of England Volume 4...

  In Volume 4, Hume closes his account of ‘England Under the House of Tudor’ begun in Volume 3, and devotes it entirely to the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. It was not really expected that she would survive to accede to the monarchy; and it was certainly unexpected that she would rule for so long (1558-1603) while steadfastly declining to take a husband. All in all, her reign was a remarkable achievement. 
  Elizabeth had so much to contend with over the years. From the start, she had to oversee the reinstatement of the Protestant religion after the tumultuous reign of her sister, Mary. Then came the testing matter of Mary, Queen of Scots which dragged on for decades.  
  There were also numerous Catholic conspiracies (many threats to her personally), requiring close attention by her protective spymaster ministers William Cecil and Francis Walsingham.  
  Then there were the complex relationships with other leading European powers, France and Spain, culminating in the spectacular climax in 1588 when Sir Francis Drake (and the weather) routed the Spanish Armada. 
  Hume does not approach Elizabeth and her reign with the ‘unbounded panegyrics’ so often adopted by historians before him. He criticises them for ‘having been so extremely ignorant of the transactions of this reign as to extol her for a quality which, of all others, she was the least possessed of – a tender regard for the constitution, and a concern for the liberties and privileges of her people.’ This, Hume insists, was not quite Elizabeth. 
  Despite acknowledging her popularity, Hume is at pains in his History to present a more rounded portrait. ‘The prerogatives of this princess were scarcely ever disputed, and she therefore employed them without scruple: Her imperious temper, a circumstance in which she went far beyond her successors, rendered her exertions of power violent and frequent, and discovered the full extent of her authority.  
  However, he continues, ‘the great popularity, which she enjoyed proves that she did not infringe any established liberties of the people’. 
  In Volume 4, Hume shows himself to be a historian of character and clarity, but also demonstrates his scholarly integrity. In the controversial issue of the guilt or innocence of Mary, for example, he went back to original documents to support his opinion. This is why his History of England remains an informative and stimulating account in the 21st century.

  Released by the Freedom of Information Act. This document is a thorough description of how the CIA recommends interrogating a subject. To get the information that is needed there is nothing withheld short of torture. For example in "Threats and Fears," the CIA authors note that "the threat of coercion usually weakens or destroys resistance more effectively than coercion itself. The threat to inflict pain, for example, can trigger fears more damaging than the immediate sensation of pain." Under the subheading "Pain," the guidelines discuss the theories behind various thresholds of pain, and recommend that a subject's "resistance is likelier to be sapped by pain which he seems to inflict upon himself" such rather than by direct torture. The report suggests forcing the detainee to stand at attention for long periods of time. A section on sensory deprivations suggests imprisoning detainees in rooms without sensory stimuli of any kind, "in a cell which has no light," for example.

  The Caral-Supe civilization, considered the first known civilization in the Americas, emerged around 5,000 years ago in the arid coastal region of present-day Peru. Often referred to as the "mother civilization" of the Andes, Caral-Supe predates other significant Andean cultures such as the Inca by millennia. Its capital city, Caral, located in the Supe Valley, is regarded as one of the oldest urban centers in the world. The discovery of this civilization has drastically reshaped our understanding of early American societies, highlighting the complexity and sophistication of pre-Columbian cultures in the Americas. 
  The story of Caral-Supe began with its discovery in the early 1990s, when archaeologist Ruth Shady and her team identified the ancient city of Caral, which had been largely overlooked until then. The site’s impressive architectural features and its well-planned urban layout revealed that the civilization had a deep understanding of engineering, agriculture, and social organization. Caral-Supe flourished for more than a thousand years, from roughly 3000 BCE to 1800 BCE, and was a major center of culture, trade, and religion in the region. 
  Geographically, the Caral-Supe civilization developed in the Supe Valley, a narrow strip of land located between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountains. This region, although dry and arid, was strategically positioned to foster trade and communication with other cultures. The valley provided fertile land for agriculture, supported by sophisticated irrigation systems, which allowed the Caral-Supe civilization to thrive in such an inhospitable environment. This innovative agricultural system was a key factor in their ability to sustain large urban populations and build monumental structures.
