The Mystery of Cloomber is a gothic mystery novel – one of Arthur Conan Doyle's early forays into suspense and the supernatural. The narrator, John Fothergill West, a young man living nearby, observes peculiar happenings: the General is in a state of constant terror, fortifying the house and anxiously awaiting an unspecified fate.
