Sinossi

"To love her was to invite a death warrant."

Rosetta Rosa is the most beautiful opera singer in Europe, possessing a voice that enchants the masses and a face that haunts every man who sees her. But a terrifying curse follows her: every man who falls in love with her meets a sudden, violent end. When young doctor Carlo Trent finds himself under her spell, he must confront a silent, spectral rival—the jealous ghost of the late Lord Sutherland—who guards Rosa from the grave.

A Supernatural Battle of Wills: Moving from the glittering social circles of London to the foggy streets of Paris, The Ghost is a gripping exploration of obsession. Unlike traditional ghost stories, Bennett's phantom is a chillingly silent presence, a manifestation of pure, possessive malice. Carlo Trent must use his scientific mind to battle an enemy that defies the laws of nature.

The Darker Side of Arnold Bennett: Best known for his realistic "Five Towns" novels, Bennett proves his mastery of the uncanny in this atmospheric thriller. The Ghost blends the high-society drama of the Edwardian era with a psychological horror that explores the thin line between love and madness. It is a story where the most dangerous thing isn't the unknown, but the lingering grip of the past.

Love is eternal. But so is revenge. Purchase "The Ghost" today and experience a classic tale of spectral suspense.

Henri René Albert Guy de Maupassant was born on August 5th, 1850 near Dieppe in France.
Maupassant’s early life was badly torn when at age 11 (his younger brother Hervé was then five) his mother, Laure, a headstrong and independent-minded woman, risked social disgrace in order to obtain a legal separation from her husband.
After the separation, Laure kept custody of her two boys. With the father now forcibly absent, Laure became the most influential and important figure in the young boy's life.
Maupassant’s education was such that he rebelled against religion and other societal norms but a developing friendship with Gustave Flaubert began to turn his mind towards creativity and writing.
After graduation he volunteered for the Franco-Prussian war. With its end he moved to Paris to work as a clerk in the Navy Department. Gustave Flaubert now took him under his wing. Acting as a literary guardian to him, he guided the eager Maupassant to debuts in journalism and literature. For Maupassant these were exciting times and the awakening of his creative talents and ambitions.
In 1880 he published what is considered his first great work, ‘Boule de Suif’, (translated as as ‘Dumpling’, ‘Butterball’, ‘Ball of Fat’, or ‘Ball of Lard’) which met with a success that was both instant and overwhelming. Flaubert at once acknowledged that it was ‘a masterpiece that will endure.’ Maupassant had used his talents and experiences in the war to create something unique.
This decade from 1880 to 1891 was to be the most pivotal of his career. With an audience now made available by the success of ‘Boule de Suif’ Maupassant organised himself to work methodically and relentlessly to produce between two and four volumes of work a year. The melding of his talents and business sense and the continual hunger of sources for his works made him wealthy.
In his later years he developed a desire for solitude, an obsession for self-preservation, and a fear of death as well as a paranoia of persecution caused by the syphilis he had contracted in his youth.
On January 2nd, 1892, Maupassant tried to commit suicide by cutting his throat. Unsuccessful he was committed to the private asylum of Esprit Blanche at Passy, in Paris. It was here on July 6th, 1893 that Henri René Albert Guy de Maupassant died at the age of only 42.

The groundbreaking science fiction classic by H.G. Wells Imagine a food…that could change the course of human history. In The Food of The Gods and How it Came to Earth, legendary science fiction author H.G. Wells provocatively chronicles this very idea: a food so powerful it transforms society as we know it. Two young scientists, Mr. Bensington and Professor Redwood, begin their study of “growth” on a whim, then proceed to develop Herakleophorbia IV, a growth serum quickly named “The Food of the Gods.” The serum is tested on chickens, who quickly grow to six times their size. It’s deemed a success, but after the serum makes its way into the local food chain, the gigantism spreads—giant plants, earwigs, wasps, and even rats. English villages are terrorized and ransacked. But the scientists have yet to learn their lesson, administering the serum to numerous young children. “Boomfood” has now taken the entire country by storm, forcing all of England to reckon with the recklessness of the scientists. Will the giants find peace among the common citizens, or will they be forced to shed blood to ensure their own survival? “If any writer could overcome the hurdles inherent in humanizing giants, that writer would be H. G. Wells, the fellow who practically pioneered all the major tropes of science fiction.”—Paul Di Filippo, Hugo-nominated author of The Steampunk Trilogy

Jane Austen's literary classic about the romance between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.
Few people haven't been won over by Elizabeth Bennet's acerbic wit and independent nature. When she first meets Fitzwilliam Darcy, an eligible bachelor, she finds him haughty and egotistical. He is not interested in her appearance sharp mind. She is resolved to hate Darcy more than ever when she later learns that he has been involved in the tumultuous relationship between his friend Bingley and her adored sister, Jane.
In the lively romantic comedy that follows, Jane Austen bcaptures the friendships, gossip and snobbery of rural middle-class life and demonstrates the foolishness of basing decisions on first impressions.
