Sinossi

In "The Ethics of Aristotle," the revered philosopher explores the principles of moral philosophy, providing a systematic examination of virtue and the path to achieving a good life. Written in a dialectical style, the work is framed around the concept of eudaimonia—often translated as flourishing or well-being. Aristotle's analytical approach distinguishes between moral virtues, which are acquired through habit, and intellectual virtues, which arise from teaching, thereby enriching the text's exploration of ethical development in a societal context. This foundational work laid the groundwork for future ethical discourse, interweaving personal ethics with broader social implications. Aristotle, a student of Plato and tutor to Alexander the Great, possessed a profound understanding of human nature, the polis, and the dynamics of virtue. His empirical background, emphasizing observation and experience over idealism, significantly influenced his philosophical inquiries. The interplay of ethics and politics is particularly relevant in Aristotle's thought, as he believed that ethical behavior is integral to the well-being of both the individual and society. Readers interested in moral philosophy, political theory, or the historical evolution of ethical thought will find "The Ethics of Aristotle" indispensable. Its timeless insights into the nature of virtue and the pursuit of the good life continue to resonate today, offering rich guidance for personal and communal flourishing.

In "Social Intelligence," Daniel Goleman explores how our relationships affect the brain, health, and well-being. He proposes that humans are biologically programmed to connect emotionally and distinguishes between two neural pathways: a fast, intuitive one (the low road) and a rational, conscious one (the high road). Goleman introduces concepts such as emotional contagion, empathy, mirror neurons, and the importance of attachment from infancy.
Goleman also differentiates between I/Thou relationships, based on genuine connection, and I/It relationships, which are more impersonal. He warns about the risks of the "dark triad" (narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism) and the emotional blindness that can affect individuals with trauma or autism spectrum conditions. He emphasizes that social intelligence is not innate but moldable through experience and environment, thanks to social epigenetics.
The author analyzes how love, leadership, education, and emotional health are influenced by our social skills. He also critiques the negative impact of technology and the mechanization of the medical system on empathy. Finally, Goleman advocates for a more compassionate society where social intelligence is cultivated through cultural, educational, and community efforts to improve our lives and relationships.

How does a child survive years of unimaginable abuse?
    She splits.
And splits again. And again. And again.
And she does survive. But not without consequences.
As a young adult, years after her physical abuse has ended, Maggie Walters struggles with an
unpredictable temper and socially difficult behaviour. After several false starts she finds a therapist
who she trusts, just enough, to start talking about the childhood locked away behind the anger and
isolation she has learnt to live with.
Eventually she is diagnosed with Multiple Personality Disorder, MPD (now known as Dissociative
    Identity Disorder or DID).
Gradually, she understands. It was not Maggie who survived her childhood. The instinct to survive
created an alternative identity called Annie, who with a myriad of other ‘alters’, lived through the
    abuse inflicted on her.
Decades later, with a husband and three much-loved children, Maggie strives to live a normal life
despite a past which has left her internal world with a hidden, dark secret. Every day, unseen by
those around her, trigger incidents fill her head with voices, the chaotic remnants of her other selves
who lived the childhood she couldn’t. This is the ‘normal’ which Maggie has learned to live with.
In SPLIT Maggie tells the story of managing this ‘normal’, of understanding and accepting her past,
and standing strong in the life she has built from the ashes of her broken childhood.
It is a story not only of survival, but of self-acceptance, of the triumph to simply live. You will not
    read another book like it.

"What Rama says once he carries out; there is no looking back.” Rama to Kaikeyi “Only the timid and the weak leave things to destiny but the strong never bank on destiny or luck.” Lakshmana to RamaThe epic poem, by Maharishi Valmiki Muni, narrates the life of Lord Rama, a legendary prince of Ayodhya city in the kingdom of Kosala. The epic follows his fourteen-year exile to the forest urged by his father King Dasharatha, on the request of Rama's stepmother Kaikeyi. He traveled across forests in the Indian subcontinent with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana. Rama endured the kidnapping of Sita by Ravana – the demon king of Lanka, which resulted in a great war; and Rama's eventual return to Ayodhya to be crowned king amidst jubilation and celebration. The Ramayana is one of the ancient epics in world literature consisting of nearly 24,000 verses. It is considered to be the Adi-kavya (first poem) depicting the duties of relationships, portraying ideal characters like the ideal father, ideal servant, ideal brother, ideal husband and ideal king. The Ramayana was an important influence on later Sanskrit poetry and Vedic life and culture. There are many versions of Ramayana in Indian languages, besides Buddhist, Sikh, and Jain adaptations. There are also Cambodian (Reamker), Indonesian, Filipino, Thai (Ramakien), Lao, Burmese and Malay versions of the iconic tale.
