  Toni L.P. Kelner has been writing thoughtful mysteries for over thirty years. She won an Agatha Award for her short story "Sleeping With the Plush" and her story "Baby Trap" was selected for inclusion in Best American Mystery and Suspense 2024, edited by S.A. Cosby and Steph Cha. Kelner's short fiction has also been nominated for the Anthony, the Macavity, and the Derringer. 
    
  Toni L.P. Kelner and Leigh Perry are two authors in one. 
    
  As Toni L.P. Kelner, she's the author of eleven novels: eight Laura Fleming mysteries set in Byerly, a small North Carolina town filled with Laura's extended family members, and three "Where are they now?" mysteries, about a freelance entertainment reporter who specializes in stories about the formerly famous. She's also the co-editor of seven urban fantasy anthologies with Charlaine Harris. Kelner has won the Agatha Award and an RT BookClub Lifetime Achievement Award, and has been nominated for the Anthony, the Macavity, and the Derringer. Her story "Baby Trap" was selected for inclusion in Best American Mystery and Suspense 2024, edited by S.A. Cosby and Steph Cha. 
    
  As Leigh Perry, she writes the Family Skeleton series about Georgia Thackery, an adjunct English professor, and her family's unusual family skeleton. Which is a skeleton. Named Sid. Sid walks, talks, and tells bad bone jokes. Together, Georgia and Sid solve crimes. 
    
  Both Leigh and Toni write short stories, and The Skeleton Rides a Horse and Other Stories is their first team-up. 
    
  No matter which name she's using, she lives north of Boston with fellow writer Stephen P. Kelner, Jr. and their daughters: a graphic artist and a flute finisher. The family has many books.

  The Overtone

  'The Overtone' looks at a sterile marriage with no children and no spontaneous sexual feeling between the couple. Lawrence seems to lose interest in the story, although he introduces a younger woman, who walks away baffled at the end. His purpose seems to be to analyse the relationship between men and women in religious terms - Christianity for the women and the old Pan religion for the men. Lawrence produces some fine writing but the argument at the end of the story seems contrived.

  This is a collection of translations of six short stories of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.  These six short stories are selected from his book ‘Galpaguchha’.  The stories are, 'Alive and Dead' (Jeebita o Mreeta), 'Suva', 'The First Look' (Shuvadrishti), 'Hoimantee', ‘Letter from Your Wife' (Streer Patra) and 'The Anonymous Lady' (Aparichita). I have selected these stories, because first of all I enjoyed reading these stories and secondly all these six stories are concerned about the position of women in the family and in the society at that time, that is, during the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century.   
  These stories depict the vulnerability of women, their lack of control over their marriage and life as a whole.  Show a glimpse of life of another time and of another culture. The line of thinking may seem much different from today’s life, but in many parts of the world still there are some people who like to suppress the rights of women in the name of religion or culture. So, these stories are still relevant.  
  Excerpts from Alive and Dead, Kadambinee cannot tolerate any more, she says sharply, ‘Oh, please, I didn’t die, did not die!  How will I make you understand that I didn’t die? Let me show you that I am alive.’ 
  From Hoimantee, ‘My life was so full to the brim on all sides, that I could not notice any gap anywhere.  Suddenly, I witnessed a large void of hopelessness so near me!  I couldn’t understand how and with what I would fill up this void.’
