Sinossi

Anatole France began his career as a poet and a journalist. Le Parnasse Contemporain published one of his poems, La Part de Madeleine. He sat on the committee which was in charge of the third Parnasse Contemporain compilation. He moved Paul Verlaine and Mallarmé aside of this Parnasse. As a journalist, from 1867, he wrote a lot of articles and notices. He became famous with the novel Le Crime de Sylvestre Bonnard. Its protagonist, skeptical old scholar Sylvester Bonnard, embodied France's own personality. The novel was praised for its elegant prose and won him a prize from the French Academy. Masterful and poignant blending of religious and occult mysticism. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1921 "in recognition of his brilliant literary achievements, characterized as they are by a nobility of style, a profound human sympathy, grace, and a true Gallic temperament." Anatole France began his career as a poet and a journalist. In 1922, France's entire works were put on the Prohibited Books Index of the Roman Catholic Church.

What’s sort of funny when something horrific happens is that nothing happens to the rest of the world. The cars still drive, the planes still fly… everything just continues. And that’s probably the best gift we have. Because, for the most part, there’s no right or wrong way to do things – life becomes whatever you make it.
This book has been written for you.
In 2018, Ben’s world collapsed around him when he unexpectedly lost his brother to suicide.
In the raw aftermath of this tragedy, Ben found the strength to learn, educate and campaign about mental health. He also wrote this book as a reminder that in despair you can always find hope. It’s packed with advice and practical takeaways.
So read it, remember it and pass it on – it could save your life.
In this deeply personal and inspirational autobiography, Ben West shares his journey through grief and depression, offering self-help strategies and psychology insights. His memoirs serve as a beacon of hope, reminding us that even in the face of death and despair, life can be shaped by our relationships and mood.
For fans of Matt Haig (Notes on a Nervous Planet), Susan Calman (Cheer Up Love), Lily Bailey (Because We Are Bad), Kate Garraway (The Strength of Love), and Minnie Driver (Managing Expectations).

What could lead a little fellow to set a putt-putt course on fire or host a keg party at his parents’ house during high school (when his father was a prominent pastor in town) or defy all odds and become perhaps a combination of the smallest and slowest starting wide receiver in major college football history? And how did that youngster eventually become an NFL agent by accident, meeting his future wife on a steamy asphalt parking lot with a “Hey, what’s your name?” yelled across that same parking lot by way of introduction and then having his heart radically transformed by the birth of his first child, Hannah, before raising three more children? And how could this same man possibly handle the news that his beloved daughter was dying? And more so, once she died, would it ever be possible for him to find healing?
Join Phil Williams on his journey as he weaves humorous, heartwarming, and intriguing stories from birth until fatherhood, and then walk with him on the most painful path a parent could ever navigate, all of which leads him to what he would call the only journey worth taking: the journey to discover what this life is really all about and who we really are.
If you like stories that leave you smiling and crying and laughing and anticipating the next one, dig in. But, no matter how much you might anticipate the next story, nothing will prepare you for the climax of this deeply emotional tale of a man and his daughter and the deeper search for meaning and truth.

"Traveling the world with my father, watching him interact with people, famous and ordinary, observing up close his balls-out sense of adventure, and having a larger-than-life personality to live up to had a profound effect on me and the formation of my character." —From the foreword by Steve Aoki, Grammy-nominated producer and Billboard award-winning DJ

Hiroaki "Rocky" Aoki was a man who succeeded in everything he pursued. From wrestling, ballooning, underwater exploration, and car and boat racing to founding Benihana, Rocky's passion for life infected all around him and accelerated the exchange of Japanese culture and cuisine with America. Rocky's rags to riches story, from dishwasher and busboy to owner of a multi-million-dollar restaurant empire, is an American dream realized unlike any other. Running and expanding the business would be all-consuming for most people, but Rocky would not be deterred. His determination for the business rivaled the drive he demonstrated in his other interests, some of which almost killed him. American Hiro by Jack McCallum, who had full access to Rocky Aoki and those in his enterprises, provides the only full inside account of one of the most famous symbols of cultural assimilation and capitalistic zeal in modern United States history—a champion in business, sports, and life.

In this memoir, one of the most successful investment bankers on Bay Street shares the lessons he learned about business and life in a long and successful career as president of Burns Fry and then as vice-chairman of BMO Nesbitt Burns. Lessons Learned on Bay Street tells the inside story of how Donald K. Johnson led financing transactions involving hundreds of millions of dollars for Canadian and international corporations, deals that involved some of the biggest financial players in the world, such as Warren Buffet. Johnson shows how he applied that deal-making ability to raise millions for charities. And he illustrates his motto, "the sale begins when the customer says no," with a tale about how he convinced the government to remove the capital gains tax on donations of listed securities. As a longtime practitioner of meditation, Johnson urges readers to choose a career they love, and to keep mentally and physically fit on the way up. This book, from an 85-year-old financial wizard born in Lundar, Manitoba, offers sage advice and a big dose of inspiration to readers seeking success in finance, in other businesses, and in life.

Tap Dancing to Work (2012) looks at the long life of investor and philanthropist Warren Buffett, chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway and one of America’s richest men. Carol Loomis, who led coverage of Buffett for decades at Fortune magazine, collected more than 40 articles along with excerpts from Buffett’s annual letters to shareholders to showcase his ideas on just about everything. Some articles are lighthearted, such as one that explores whether Warren and singer Jimmy Buffett are related (maybe). For the most part, though, the articles highlight his investment strategies, his long-time friendship with Microsoft’s Bill Gates, and his profound impact on the US economy, the stock market, and CEOs worldwide.
