Sinossi

Why our banking system is broken—and the reforms needed to fix it The past few years have shown that risks in banking can impose significant costs on the economy. Many claim, however, that a safer banking system would require sacrificing lending and economic growth. The Bankers' New Clothes examines this claim and the narratives used by bankers, politicians, and regulators to rationalize the lack of reform, exposing them as invalid. Anat Admati and Martin Hellwig argue that we can have a safer and healthier banking system without sacrificing any of its benefits, and at essentially no cost to society. They seek to engage the broader public in the debate by cutting through the jargon of banking, clearing the fog of confusion, and presenting the issues in simple and accessible terms.

Originally published in 1532, nearly five years after the authors death, The Prince is a pioneering work of modern political philosophy for which Niccolo Machiavelli is best remembered. Intended to be a treatise on ruling for princes, The Prince is one of the world's first and most impactful works of political science. In the audiobook, Machiavelli offers many bits of practical advice on how to rule and even though the book was written in the early 16th century the ideas are still very relevant today.Where The Prince differs from other political literature is in its separation of the lofty idealism of morality and ethics from the practical demands of governing. It is this very aspect of Machiavelli's work that has made his name synonymous with an almost immoral opportunism. It has been argued that Machiavelli himself was not quite as devious in reality as his work would suggest but that he takes up this style in his work in order to present a provocative treatise that recognizes the pragmatic demands of governance. The impact on Western civilization of Machiavelli's work cannot be overstated, and in The Prince we find a concise exposition of his political philosophy.

This book describes an entirely new way of conducting hypnotherapeutic interventions - Stephen Gilligan's generative trance. The first generation of trance work, the traditional hypnosis that still holds sway in most places, considers that both the conscious mind and the unconscious mind of the client are, to put it bluntly, idiots. So trance work involves first 'knocking out' the conscious mind and then talking to the unconscious mind like a 2-year old that needs to be told how to behave. Milton Erickson created the second generation of trance work. He approached the unconscious as having creative wisdom and each person as extraordinarily unique. Thus, rather than trying to programme the unconscious with new instructions, Erickson saw trance as an experiential learning state where a person's own creative unconscious could generate healing and transformation. At the same time Erickson, for the most part, carried the same low opinion of the conscious mind. Thus, Ericksonian hypnosis looks to bypass the conscious mind with indirect suggestions and dissociation and depotentiate it with confusion techniques.

Almost every society has professional judges, but from ancient Athens to modern Asia, cultures have wanted ordinary people involved in legal decisions. The use of juries comes with challenges; societies must determine how to select jurors, what cases jurors should decide and by what rules, and how to inform jurors about the law and evidence. This Very Short Introduction shows how and why societies around the world have used juries, charting the spread of the twelve-person jury from England to the British colonies in America, Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, and the Caribbean. In criminal cases, use of lay jurors has stretched to nations in Europe, Latin America, and Asia as they aspire to democracy, greater popular participation in government, and legitimacy of the justice system. But in English-speaking countries, jury trials are declining. Civil juries have been virtually abolished everywhere except the United States, and even there they are rare. In criminal cases, plea bargaining is now taking the place of jury trials. In this book, Renée Lettow Lerner describes the benefits and challenges of using juries, including jury nullification, and considers how innovations from non-English-speaking countries may be key to the survival of lay participation.

WARNING!: This is a Best Seller Summary and Analysis of BLACKOUT by Candace Owens. It is not the original book, nor intended to replace it. If you are a Democrat, don't read this book because you will learn many characteristics about your party that are embarrassingly despicable. Your party has historically exploited and constrained Blacks. If you want the truth or are a Republican or Independent, then this book and Candace Owen's book are must-reads-- so you will know how to support conservative Blacks for 2020 and throughout life.

She decided to take a close look at how the Democrats had "organized" Black communities for "change" that meant "control," "constrain," and "harm." The Democrat efforts were aimed to prevent Blacks from conquering the challenges of poverty. Black success meant less power for the Democrats.

She shares how she overcame obstacles and setbacks to beat the Democrat system designed to keep her down as a "victim."

Government assistance, Ms. Owens argues, has a dark side and can take away motivation and independence. It results in Plantation Politics. She laments how the Democrats push for abortion has many adverse effects on Black communities-- beyond the murder of Black babies. She explains how the #MeToo movement is detrimental to Black males and Black communities in general.

Taking a right turn in political identity will lead to a healthier, happier, more independent, and more successful life.

"What do you have to lose?" was what Trump as a candidate asked Blacks in regards to voting Republican. Nothing is the right answer--but with a whole lot to gain.
