Sinossi

Huang He Rituals explores the Yellow River's deep connection to Chinese civilization, highlighting its role in shaping spiritual identity and ancestral worship. The book argues that the river is more than a geographical feature; it's a living embodiment of Chinese culture. Intriguingly, the Yellow River has served not only as a source of water but also as a nexus for communicating with the divine. The river's influence extends to mythology, with legends of dragon deities adding to its sacred status. The book examines the river's role in shaping Chinese cosmology and philosophy, including its connection to feng shui.

Huang He Rituals unfolds in three parts, beginning with foundational myths, then moving into rituals performed on the riverbanks, and finally analyzing the river's role in shaping Chinese thought. By blending historical analysis with spiritual interpretation, the book offers a unique understanding of the Yellow River's significance.

Conspiracy theories, and particularly the belief that elements of the world are secretly controlled by individuals or groups, have been around for as long as people have lived in groups. Perhaps that’s inevitable - after all, those who are excluded from power are very likely to be inclined to see their position not as an outcome of their own choices or situation but because of the secret machinations of shadowy groups.
One topic that has been a constant in Internet debates is the group known as the Bohemian Club. Founded in 1872 in San Francisco, this began as a club for journalists with an interest in the arts, but over the subsequent 150 years, it appears to have changed into a vehicle for the annual conclave of some of the most wealthy and powerful men on the planet. Each year, hundreds of men gather in a luxurious camp known as Bohemian Grove in a remote forest in California to do something.
Just what it is they do is a secret, which has inevitably led to some intense speculation. Is it no more than a fun-filled frolic where the super-rich and powerful can go to escape their cares for a few days, or is it something more sinister, a cabal in which secret decisions are made that affect everybody else? Finding out about the Bohemian Club and the annual gatherings at Bohemian Grove isn’t easy. Most of those invited to join this exclusive club remain members until they die, meaning there are no disaffected former members willing to talk about what goes on there. Current members are unwilling to talk about the club or its activities.
It’s this secrecy that has led to some bizarre speculation about just what it is that happens in Bohemian Grove every summer. Coming up with answers is no easy feat, as the group takes its secrecy seriously and members have the wealth and power to make sure the club’s business stays secret.

A Book About Books - Volume I of...

    E. H. Bernstein

This book is Volume I of a three volume book plus accompanying website, www.bookaboutbooks.com, which adds to subjects already in the book or presents some books and subjects not contained in the books. The other volumes are available from the same booksellers as this volume. Note this 2024 publication date is a corrected version of the original version of this volume published in 2018.
A Book about Books discusses what nonfiction books and subjects the author believes are important to know about. This book tries to point to problems in how we live and to see if books have any answers. Even though the books are complete, the author will update the website periodically in the future.
    E. H. Bernstein is a former librarian turned author. The subtitle of the book describes the author's objective: "A handbook in three volumes to a choice of essential books, writers and subjects in order to understand the world we live in, about 'big questions' and possible answers, about books and writers that may improve people's lives, about neglected writers, and other books and subjects."
A Book about Books attempts to share what the author has learned from nearly 50 years of nonfiction reading and to provide the reader with samples of the most important authors and subjects from that reading.
While the book is based on research, it is intended to be a handbook or guide by trying to make that research understandable to the general reader and to students, and for teachers--by pointing to what the author believes is missing from today's education. A curriculum proposal for college teachers is on the website.
Note about how the volumes are related: each chapter is on a separate subject. So the chapters can be read individually, but the full message requires reading all the volumes. Volume I is important, but preliminary to the more important Volumes II and III. Note also that the book is not just about books, since other sources are also mentioned.
The author believes we should listen to many voices, so the book draws on many types of writers from different times and countries.
The author says: A contemporary writer once said that one of the purposes of writing is that books should be useful. I hope that my book will be of use.
