Sinossi

Alison Barnard's A Walk in the Rain is the story of two women who meet when each is on the brink of world-wide fame and trying not to face her dissatisfaction with the life she has made for herself. It is a love story, but it is also about a journey to self-acceptance. By the end of it, both major characters have to challenge assumptions and prejudices in society and in themselves.

Actress Shara travels and lives with Jessa while researching her new role - that of Jessa Hanson - in the film about the conductor's life, and they fall in love. Shara's boyfriend Derek intervenes, helped by Shara's belief that she has caught Jessa in a compromising position with a former lover. They separate. "Maestra" is filmed and Jessa records a musical poem that is a tribute to the love she has lost. When Shara hears that musical piece, goes to see her. They consummate their relationship, but is Shara ready for the kind of publicity a lesbian relationship will attract?

After decades of bouncing between hope and despair, Evangelical, Baptist-raised Julie Rodgers found herself making a powerful public statement that her former self would have never said: "I support same-sex marriage in the church."When Rodgers came out to her family as a junior in high school, she still believed that God would sanctify her and eventually make her straight. Wanting so intensely to be good, she spent her adolescent and early adult years with an ex-gay ministry, praying for liberation from her homosexuality. In Outlove Rodgers details her deeply personal journey from a life of self-denial in the name of faith to her role in leading the take-down of Exodus International, the largest ex-gay organization in the world, to her marriage to a woman at the Washington National Cathedral. We see the larger story of why many have left conservative religious structures in order to claim their truest identity.Outlove is about love and losses, political and religious power-plays, and the cost to those who sought to stay in a faith community that wouldn't accept them. Shedding light on the debate between Evangelical Christians and the LGBTQ community—a battle that continues to rage on in the national news and in courtrooms across the country—this book ultimately casts a hopeful vision for how the church can heal.

This “beautifully written and utterly compelling” novel by the acclaimed South African author traces E. M. Forester’s journey of self-discovery (The Times, London).   The year is 1912, and the SS Birmingham is approaching India. On board is Edward Morgan Forster, a reserved man taunted by writer’s block, attempting to come to terms with his art and his homosexuality. During his travels, the novelist confronts his fraught childhood and falls in unrequited love with his closest friend. He also finds himself surprisingly freed to explore his “minorite” desires as secretary to a most unusual Maharajah.   Slowly, the strands of a story begin to gather in Forster’s mind: a sense of impending menace, lust in close confines, under a hot, empty sky. But it will be another twelve years and a second stay in India before the publication of his finest work, A Passage to India.   Shifting across the landscapes of India, Egypt, and England, Forster’s life is informed by his relationships—from the Egyptian tram conductor Mohammed el-Adl, to the Greek poet and literary titan C. P. Cavafy. Damon Galgut’s reimagining of Forster’s life is a clear and sympathetic psychological probing of one of Britain’s finest novelists.  “Galgut inhabits [Forster] with such sympathetic completeness, and in prose of such modest excellence that he starts to breathe on the page.” —Financial Times
