From Hispanic author Hailey Alcaraz, this historical tale of arson, sleuthing, and finding friendship in unlikely places is based on the real Hotel Adams fire of 1910. It's up to two Latina girls to turn their knack for being overlooked and underestimated into their greatest strength as they unravel a complex web of suspects, clues, and motives.
Ruth and Luisa live very different lives within the dusty desert town of Phoenix. Ruth is the only child of a political official. She spends her days stuffed into scratchy dresses and smiling prettily in the ballrooms of the Hotel Adams. Luisa is a young housekeeper. She looks at the Persian rug and thinks, I also know what it feels like to be walked over, barely noticed, and covered in other people's dirt. The girls stumble into a partnership when they overhear a plan to set fire to the hotel, a political hot spot for the growing western town. As they race to figure out who is behind the plot--and how to stop them--they must not only overcome what other people expect from them but what they've grown to expect from themselves.

This book contains 3 short stories, all written by a child, between the ages of 4-7. These are the stories:
1: This beautiful book for little girls was made up by a little girl. The 5-year-old genius claims to be a “unicorn expert” and gave her dad the entire outline for a short-read that will melt your heart.
The story is about Princess Snow, a 5-year-old girl (go figure) who lives with her parents in a gorgeous palace. One day, she meets an ice unicorn. She plays with the elegant animal and flies on its back to a magical place called Unicorn Iceland, where more ice unicorns live. There, she plays on slides, eats healthy ice cream, and does whatever a girl that age does.
2: Princess Kindle is a girl with a volatile energy and bright mind. And what’s more, she absolutely loves playing with fire. You could say she is a pyromaniac. Her friend, Prince Flint, is her best buddy, although sometimes, he’s not the smartest kid on the block. With him, she experiences several adventures at home and in their search for a cave, until they find a fire dragon unicorn.
The beautiful creature takes them to an area of black rocks and volcanic landscapes.
3: This short children’s story is an ideal bedtime story for girls (and maybe for boys too). The story goes like this:
Princess Cloudy loves her life. She plays in the courtyard, dances in the rain in her bathing suit, and has a special power: Summoning cloud buddies, tiny clouds with faces that fly around and drop rain. Everything seems well, until she sees a unicorn who needs help.
After helping the poor animal, she gets invited to join the unicorn in a party in the sky, with the other cloud unicorns. And as long as she gets home before dark, her mother is okay with it. But there is a problem. The lightning unicorns are destroying their homes!
