Vincent O'Sullivan was born on the 28th November 1868 in New York City. He was initially educated through the New York public school system before finishing his studies in England. As a young man he remained in London and travelled often to Paris.
O’Sullivan lived a very comfortable life with income from the family coffee business. He had no real need to work but decided that a literary lifestyle was for him.
In 1896 he released his first volume of supernatural fiction ‘A Book of Bargains’. Within its pages were classic stories that involved pacts with the Devil, reanimated corpses and psychic vampires.
Over the course of his career, he wrote a mere 10 volumes of short stories, novels, poetry together with some occasional criticism.
In 1909 his brother, who ran the company, entered its resources into some terribly mis-timed trades in coffee futures and ruin for both the company and the family quickly followed.
From now until his death O’Sullivan was destitute, life was exceedingly difficult.
Vincent O’Sullivan died on the 18th July 1940 in Paris. He was 71. He was buried in a paupers grave along with the remains of others.

"A stunning slow burn brimming with observation, emotion, and incident.” —Kirkus Reviews, Starred Review

“A fantastic firecracker of a collection I'll return to again and again!” —Deesha Philyaw, author of The Secret Lives of Church Ladies

In her dynamic debut, Halle Hill’s Good Women delves into the lives of twelve Black women across the Appalachian South.

A woman boards a Greyhound bus barreling toward Florida to meet her sugar daddy’s mother; a state fair employee considers revenge on a local preacher; a sister struggles with guilt as she helps her brother plan to run away with a man he's seeing in secret; a young woman who works for a scam for-profit college navigates the lies she sells for a living.

Darkly funny and deeply human, Good Women observes how place, blood ties, generational trauma, obsession, and boundaries―or lack thereof―influence how we navigate our small worlds, and how those worlds so often collide in ways we don’t expect. Through intimate moments of personal choice, Hill carefully shines a light on how these twelve women shape and form themselves through faith and abandon, transgression and conformity, community, caution, and solitude.

With precision and empathy, Hill captures the mundane in moments of absurdity, and bears witness to both joy and heartbreak, reminding us how the next moment could be life-changing. Vibrant and exacting, Hill is a must-read new voice in literary fiction.

Love, Cruelty, Power: the three cornered stool on which the world squats. A Sting in the Ale is not a novel, it is not even an anti-novel but rather an extended meditation in short story and poetic form over the events reimagined of an otherwise uneventful life; the life of every human animal in which plot and plans fall prey to one darn thing after another. Most things were never meant to be - as the poet of lower middle class misery once observed. The modern cult of power has replaced the ancient notion of the Good as the credible measure of a fulfilled and meaningful life. To what pass is the cult of the self and the cult of power and its holyfool handmaidens leading us? Power, Cruelty and Love; the power of love, the love of power and the universal apologia of partners, jilting lovers, politicians and pimps of various persuasions insisting that one has to be cruel in order to be kind. Very often the kindness in the human animal is cruelty in waiting. A Sting in the Ale is a work of art or pornography - only the individual reader can decide.

Josiah Flynt Willard (1869-1907) was an American sociologist and author. After several years of experience as a vagrant, he wrote fiction and nonfiction as a kind of expert on tramps and tramping. His further works dealing with the lower and criminal classes include Found Guilty, part of a collection of stories written in collaboration with Francis Walton, an American author and attorney.
When not in the recording studio, Robert Walcott plays base guitar and sings for his folk band, Dreamscapers. In addition to narrating fiction, he enjoys doing commercial voiceovers and deep river flyfishing in eastern Montana.
