He was in his bedroom. Everything was where it should be, from the battered spines of the sci-fi novels in his bookcase to his wallet sitting on the desk. He could feel the familiar weight of his comforter on his back, and if he had a case of morning wood, well, that was perfectly normal for a guy his age, right? He blinked, frowning down at the bed. The gray and red plaid under his arms was familiar. If I’m lying on my comforter, what the hell’s on my back? “Welcome back, sleepyhead,” his mother said, amused. “Has anyone ever told you that you have an absolutely delectable ass? And those wings really go well with your skin tone.” “Mom!” Memory came flooding back and he sat up. “Ow! Shit!” He fell back onto the bed, wincing in pain. “Rule one, Damien.” From her spot in his desk chair, Lilith lifted a teasing eyebrow. “Wings are gorgeous, sexy, and mortals find them damn near irresistible. To our eternal delight. But they are absolutely freaking useless in bed.” “Ow.” The sensation as he rolled over on his wing had been like getting his hair pulled in a fight. But somehow worse. When he sat up again, he did it more carefully. “You’re naked,” he said flatly. Lilith lifted a brow. “So are you,” she pointed out. “Rather spectacularly so, in fact.” She wet her lips with the tip of her tongue, smiling. “I had to wait nineteen years for this day, but it was worth it.” Damien was hard as a rock, a fact which his mother’s own otherworldly beauty did nothing to diminish. “You look like you should be on the front of a heavy-metal album. Or a fantasy novel.” The sort that PTAs passed resolutions against, actually. Black hair, pale skin, wicked eyes, and a body that seemed to be designed for the express purpose of lovemaking. “Thank you, honey. That’s sweet.” He put the heels of his hands over his eyes. “Mom, what is going on?” “I told you, Damien. You’re an incubus.” “A sex demon?” Anger lit her eyes. “No, Damien. We are not in league with the devil and his minions. In fact, we are his oldest and most bitter enemies. When the Demonspawn, in whatever form they take, emerge from the Pit, we are the ones who hunt them down and destroy them.” Her voice gentled slightly. “If we’re anything, we’re sex angels.”
