Beschreibung

Poirot and Hastings go on vacation. On the bus they meet Mary Durrant, who works with her aunt in an antique shop and travels, like them, to Charlock Bay carrying a valuable set of miniatures that she will sell to an American collector. Everyone is staying at the Anchor Hotel. Mary discovers unpacking her suitcase that it has been broken and the miniatures are no longer there. Desperate, she asks Poirot for help. The first thing the detective does is telephone the buyer, Mr. Wood, who claims that half an hour earlier someone in the name of Elizabeth Penn, Mary Durrant's aunt, sold him the famous miniatures for £500. Can Poirot discover the truth?

In Teaching Machines How to Cry, Paula Hidalgo-Sanchis explores the story of Alba, a young woman seeking answers for a feeling of longing she can’t explain, and M, an AI prototype.
Alba was a child when she first spent time with M, until they were unexpectedly driven apart. As an adult, Alba slowly realises that M might hold the answers to her life-long yearning when she remembers that the last time she felt whole was as a child when she taught M how to cry.
This novel explores the symbiosis between AI and the human soul and raises the questions of how machines and humans might live and evolve together in a not so-distant future.

A heart-in-the-mouth and utterly addictive adventure thriller from a phenomenal debut Australian talent.

UN surgeon Rachel Forester is posted at a remote medical clinic deep in the jungle of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. With violence escalating in the region, Dr Forester risks her life by remaining to tend an injured child while the rest of her team evacuates. On the cusp of her final desperate chance to leave, a soldier is carried into the camp by three other members of his unit, his condition so critical, his airlift must take priority over hers.
With no help coming, and in the path of warring militias, this small unit must flee through the heart of the jungle to reach the safety of the province capital. But in the dark wilderness lies a strangling web of crime and corruption. As they get deeper, they discover a sinister mining operation and stolen children with evidence indicating shadowy ties to the UN. But aren't those the people Dr Forester works for? The only people who know she's still lost out there? And now, the people who want her dead?
The further they delve, the more the web closes around them. Will they make it out alive?
