Sinossi

Kratos (Strength), Bia (violence), and the smith-god Hephaestus chain the Titan Prometheus to a mountain in the Caucasus. Prometheus is being punished not only for stealing fire, but also for thwarting Zeus's plan to obliterate the human race. This punishment is especially galling since Prometheus was instrumental in Zeus's victory in the Titanomachy.
Prometheus Bound enjoyed a measure of popularity in antiquity and Aeschylus was very popular in Athens decades after his death. In the early 19th century, the Romantic writers came to identify with the defiant Prometheus. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote a poem on the theme, as did Lord Byron. Percy Bysshe Shelley wrote a play, Prometheus Unbound, which used some of the materials of the play as a vehicle for Shelley's own vision.

Embark on a journey through the messy and magnificent tapestry of real life with Scottish writer and performer Lynn Ferguson. In her debut collection of essays, "Notes from the Valley," Lynn invites you into her world in the San Fernando Valley, where she resides with her husband Mark, two sons, Arthur the dog, 10 chickens, and a buzzing community of 40,000 bees. No matter where she was in the world, Lynn used to call her mother in Cumbernauld, Scotland every Sunday. And then her mother died. And Lynn carried on with the business of living. She wrote comedy for Late Night TV, polished scripts for Pixar, told stories at the Moth, wrote plays for the BBC, performed solo shows, and provided the voice of the plasticine chicken, Mac in the Chicken Run movie series. Life was continuing as normal until… “I woke up one Sunday and felt a great sense of longing, like something was missing. I felt - as all-round smarty pants, and big thinker Edgar Watson Howe once said -‘homesick for a life I never had, and never will have.’ It wasn’t a new feeling, but relatively new.” So, instead of calling her mother every Sunday, Lynn decided to send a note out into the Universe instead. Her notes quickly resonated with readers worldwide, creating an instant success. Notes From The Valley earned itself devoted readers who found that Lynn’s raw and genuine storytelling of her everyday life entwined so easily with their own. Notes from the Valley is a testament to the universal need for reflection, for in reflecting on where our individual journeys have taken us, we uncover how we really belong. This book captures the essence of a year in the tumultuous reality of life, from one November to the next. With love and gratitude for your existence, Lynn shares her Sunday reflections on the human experience, seeking to connect to you, no matter where in the world you are placed. A magnificent script, newly declassified revelations, testimony from the world's greatest historians and thinkers, and the chilling words of the Fuhrer himself and those of his closest henchmen to deliver History’s Verdict on Hitler.
Opening with an astonishing series of insights into the formative years of the future dictator, we trace how the unremarkable son of a provincial bully experienced failure in love and art to then find happiness in the midst of a bloodbath. How Germany's defeat in the Great War catalysed his anti-Semitism and sense of destiny. How his propaganda gurus helped him win vast support in a failed state and pervert it into his Reich. Then how his reeling foreign opponents are struck by his lightning war.
We witness Hitler's raw talent for strategy. His pitiless drive for war - and for war crimes. His complex relations with the men of his inner circle. His tortured relations with the women around him.
Hitler is measured against other Nazi leaders, his generals and his enemies.
We chart how initial dazzling successes on the battlefields amplify both Hitler's hubris and the horror of his plans.
We see how his fanaticism and his sentimentalism make him a disastrous ally. And how an awesome coalition forms against him.
Stalin’s own contributions to the decisive battles of the eastern Front – Moscow, Stalingrad and Kursk – are analysed, as well as the role of Zhukov, the weather and Siberian troops in saving the U.S.S.R.
Yet we also see how he is resisted; how he is defeated; how he is destroyed.
