Sinossi

In "Teddy Bears," Adah Louise Sutton explores the whimsical yet profound world of these beloved childhood companions, weaving a rich tapestry of narrative that reflects both personal and collective experiences with these soft toys. Sutton'Äôs prose is marked by a gentle yet incisive style, combining elements of folklore and modernity to capture the emotional resonance of teddy bears as symbols of comfort, childhood innocence, and nostalgia. The book invites readers into a reflection on how these artifacts of youth have shaped social connections and provided solace across generations, thus placing it firmly within the realm of contemporary literature that examines the interplay between memory and material culture. Adah Louise Sutton, an accomplished writer and cultural historian, draws upon her extensive background in childhood studies and material culture to craft this poignant exploration. Her journey through various academic disciplines, alongside her personal experiences as a parent and educator, instills in her a unique perspective on the significance of play and objects in the realm of childhood. Sutton's passion for understanding the psychological impact of toys on development informs her narrative, making this work both informative and emotionally engaging. Readers searching for a thought-provoking examination of everyday objects will find "Teddy Bears" a delightful and insightful addition to their literary collection. San Francisco is the endgame of gentrification, where racialized displacement means that the Black population of the city hovers at just over three percent. The Robeson Justice Academy opened to serve the few remaining low-income neighborhoods of the city, with the mission of offering liberatory, social justice-themed education to youth of color. While it features a progressive curriculum, including Frantz Fanon and Audre Lorde, the majority Latinx school also has the district's highest suspension rates for Black students. In Progressive Dystopia Savannah Shange explores the potential for reconciling the school's marginalization of Black students with its sincere pursuit of multiracial uplift and solidarity. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork and six years of experience teaching at the school, Shange outlines how the school fails its students and the community because it operates within a space predicated on antiblackness. Seeing San Francisco as a social laboratory for how Black communities survive the end of their worlds, Shange argues for abolition over revolution or progressive reform as the needed path toward Black freedom.

Inhabitants of Medellín, Colombia, suffered from the war-like violence perpetrated by drug cartels and other actors in the 1980s and 1990s. Thousands died, including innocent civilians, judges, and journalists, many more were injured and suffered psychological trauma. Three decades later, however, transnational media companies such as Netflix have transformed the traumatic memories into entertainment while the main perpetrator, Pablo Escobar, became a
    recognizable brand name.

Victimhood, Memory, and Consumerism: Profiting from Pablo documents the story of violence inflicted on Medellín, and critically examines the status of its victims. Drawing on unique empirical material, the book addresses the impact of commercial exploitation of the city's violent past on the victims of mass drug violence and on the present nature of the city.

Victimhood, Memory, and Consumerism offers a poignant critique of the role of the global market economy in the unequal distribution of narrative power among those engaged in processes of collective memory construction. A thoroughly compelling listen, this volume will appeal internationally to academics in criminology and victimology, as well as those interested in critical perspectives on Netflix, commercialism, and Colombian history.

    WALL STREET JOURNAL BESTSELLER

Global Warming: The Great Deception-The Triumph of Dollars and Politics Over Science and Why You Should Care is the definitive work on the subject of anthropogenic (man-made) global warming.

Guy Mitchell, a businessman with the mind of a scientist, takes a holistic approach and combines scientific analysis with an in-depth review of the political and economic aspects of the subject. He uses proven science and scientific facts to refute every claim of the climate alarmists and proponents of the man-made global warming hypothesis. He exposes the true reasons that the UN, certain politicians, and global investment firms promote global warming fraud. His analysis is an unbiased, scientifically based, insightful, no-holds-barred approach to the subject.

Mitchell employs his keen sense of business acumen to expose the real drivers behind the claims of man-made global warming: research funding, politics, and global economics. Over $1 trillion worldwide has been spent on global warming research with nothing of substance to show for it. Certain politicians in the US and Western Europe embrace the fraudulent hypothesis with no apparent understanding of the science or the socioeconomic impact that the abandonment of fossil fuels would have on the world economy or the reliability of the power grids that drive it.

Why do the U.N. and certain politicians in the U.S. and Western Europe continue to promote the fraudulent global warming hypothesis? It is all about the money - money for research and to affect socio-economic change. For many politicians, it is all about the power - the power to control the lives of the electorate. Power is the ultimate narcotic. And money follows power in politics.
