Sinossi

"Kisington Town" is a collection of tales by American writer Abbie Farwell Brown. Ten generations of the Brown family resided in New England, and the cultural tradition of her land found the reflection in many of her works. The typical heroes of her tales are boys and girls of Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer type, who own the streets of Boston and other New England cities and towns till their parents work hard to build a better life for their families.

When Clarence Thomas joined the Supreme Court in 1991, he found with dismay that it was interpreting a very different Constitution from the one the framers had written—the one that had established a federal government manned by the people's own elected representatives, charged with protecting citizens' inborn rights while leaving them free to work out their individual happiness themselves, in their families, communities, and states.
Thomas, had deep misgivings about the new governmental order. He shared the framers' vision of free, self-governing citizens forging their own fate. And from his own experience growing up in segregated Savannah, flirting with and rejecting black radicalism at college, and running an agency that supposedly advanced equality, he doubted that unelected experts and justices really did understand the moral arc of the universe better than the people themselves, or that the rules and rulings they issued made lives better rather than worse. So in the hundreds of opinions he has written in more than a quarter century on the Court, he has questioned the constitutional underpinnings of the new order and tried to restore the limited, self-governing original one, as more legitimate, more just, and more free than the one that grew up in its stead. The Court now seems set to move down the trail he blazed.

A concise guide to giving meaningful, appropriate toasts for virtually any occasion, from the author of How to Be a Gentleman.

A Gentleman Raises His Glass teaches how to prepare a toast for virtually any occasion—be it a wedding, a celebratory dinner, or any social celebration where a tribute would be welcome. It also tells the history of the toast, gives examples of the right and wrong things to say, and contains more than fifty aphorisms on toasting:A gentleman knows that, unless he is seated in a crowded public restaurant, he must stand to deliver a toastWhen a gentleman makes a toast, he makes it directly to his guest of honor, not to the table at largeA gentleman knows that a toast, even at a bachelor’s dinner, is still intended to be a tribute—not an embarrassment

Written by Armando Di-Finizio, A Head Full of Ethos: A holistic guide to developing and sustaining a positive school culture is a head teacher's insightful account of how to go about developing a shared vision and blending it into a school's culture and day-to-day running. When one or more aspects of a school's running or curriculum breaks down, all too often the leadership team will jump from one idea to another in a bid to remedy the problem. This, however, can lead to blurred vision and possible confusion. Leaders may then wonder why the remedies aren't working and are likely to scramble for more, hopefully better, ideas.Armando Di-Finizio, however, believes that the key to success lies in the school's ethos and in the daily manifestation of its underpinning principles. In A Head Full of Ethos, Armando weaves his experiences and the lessons he's learned from three decades of successful school leadership into an engaging illustration of the principles which have supported him in his varied settings. In so doing, he explores the key elements that contribute to nurturing a positive school ethos and cultivating a healthy teaching and learning environment. The book examines the many interconnected cogs of a sustainable ethos - an ethos which will become the driving force in inspiring the school's students to flourish and its staff to grow professionally. In turn, it empowers school leaders at all levels with the means to take more ownership of what they do, and imbues them with more courage in relation to their convictions and decision-making.Suitable for middle and senior leaders in all school settings.
