Sinossi

Everyone has secrets.
I'm the mistress of a rich and powerful man who delights in pain and humiliation. It's a life I chose, and there's no going back from it now. Marcus owns me, body and soul, and I'm his until he uses me up. I used to pray that day would come quickly, until I met his brother, Lucas.
Now I just pray that I can have five minutes in the arms of the man who is everything I've ever dreamed of, everything his brother could never be.
My brother calls her his fiancée, but I know that's a lie. No woman in her right mind would consider marrying that psychopath, and Diane isn't insane. No, I'm the one who's crazy, obsessing over the hollow-eyed beauty who haunts my house during the day and my dreams at night. My iron-clad rule is to never get involved, but I'm about to break the hell out of it.
I just can't figure out whether I really want to save her, or if I just want to make her mine.

In the mid 1800s, Pyncheon is still a revered namesake in Salem, with the gloomy Pyncheon mansion serving as a stark reminder of the family's upper class history. However, the house - unique for its seven gables - has a dark and deadly past. Its current occupant, the older and unmarried Hepzibah Pyncheon, is all but destitute and unwilling to accept any assistance from her wealthy but unrelenting cousin, Judge Jaffrey Pyncheon. To support her brother Clifford, who is about to leave prison after serving 30 years for murder, Hepzibah opens a shop in a side room. Phoebe, a distant cousin from the country, moves into the mansion to help run the shop. Soon a romance blossoms between Phoebe and Holgrave, an attic lodger who is writing the Pyncheon family history.

    It knows what scares you…
Enter a dreamscape of supernatural terror with Scare Street’s latest collection. This diabolical volume contains fifteen terrifying tales of fear and horror. And each story pulls you deeper into the realm of perpetual night.
There’s something eerily familiar about the shadowy landscape you find yourself in. The crumbling old house on the hill, the pale fog rolling through the cemetery, the stone gargoyles perched above ancient tombs…you swear you’ve been here before.
But as your breath quickens and your heart beats faster, you realize this is no déjà vu. Something has pierced your consciousness and delved into your darkest nightmares. The spirits have brought your greatest fears to life.
And now, they’re hunting you through the darkness…

A trio of romantic spellbinders from a New York Times–bestselling and Edgar Award–winning “master of suspense” (Mary Higgins Clark).   Three atmospheric psychological thrillers from the undisputed “Queen of the American gothics” (The New York Times).  Woman Without a Past: Popular mystery novelist Molly Hunt has just made a stunning discovery: She’s the daughter of South Carolina blue bloods and was kidnapped as an infant from their plantation in Charleston. But her birth family is a strange brood and meeting them is not the happy reunion she expected. It’s only when Molly finds a letter from her late father that she comes to realize how much danger she’s in—and what it will take to escape the shadows of Mountfort Hall alive.  The Red Carnelian: Linell Wynn, copywriter for Chicago department store Cunningham’s, can put a clever spin on everything. But she’s at a loss for words when, after closing time, she finds the manager’s corpse in a window display. Considering her volatile history with the victim, she’s the number one suspect—until a second murder throws the store detective for a loop and plunges Linell into the investigation. Now she’s working after hours to find a killer, and she has more to lose than her job.  Feather on the Moon: It’s been seven years since Jennifer Blake’s daughter vanished, but she’s never given up hope of finding her. Then comes the call from a wealthy dowager a continent away who believes the girl living in her own home could be Jennifer’s long-lost child. When Jennifer arrives at the sprawling Vancouver Island estate she must navigate a maze of threatening secrets if she’s to find her daughter—and solve the most shattering mystery of all, locked away in the shadows of Radburn House.

In In the Vault we find an undertaker trapped in the vault where coffins are stored during winter for burial in the spring, and is mysteriously injured when he escapes.

"In the Vault" was based on a suggestion made in August 1925 by Charles W. Smith, editor of the amateur journal Tryout, which Lovecraft recorded in a letter: "an undertaker imprisoned in a village vault where he was removing winter coffins for spring burial, & his escape by enlarging a transom reached by the piling up of the coffins".
