Sophia was born in a small town in upstate New York. The only girl in a large Italian family, she was protected, in many ways, from the things that other children may have learned or heard of as they were growing up. She attended a Christian school for most of her life and dreamt of becoming a nurse as her grandmother had been. This dream eventually came to fruition many years later.
