Beschreibung

Kate Lock's play, winner of the Adrian Pagan Award, premieres at the King's Head Theatre, Islington, in April 2016.
Hilda is blind, lives alone, and is visited by a carer once a week. Camilla is a young offender looking for her next mark. A surprising and curious relationship sparks off between these opposites as both search for connection and purpose. Kate Lock's insightful new play delves into maternal relationships and the line between friendship and family, and contrasts our current culture of blame and instant gratification with the self-worth and determination of the post-war generation.

New York. A film studio. A young woman has an urgent story to tell.
But here, people are products, movies are money and sex sells. And the rights to your life can be a dangerous commodity to exploit.
Martin Crimp's razor-sharp satire, The Treatment, was first seen at the Royal Court Theatre in 1993. It was revived at the Almeida Theatre, London, in 2017, in a production directed by Lyndsey Turner.

Caesar and Cleopatra, a play written in 1898 by George Bernard Shaw, was first staged in 1901 and first published with Captain Brassbound's Conversion and The Devil's Disciple in his 1901 collection, Three Plays for Puritans. It was first performed at Newcastle upon Tyne on March 15, 1899. London production was at the Savoy Theatre in 1907. Shaw wants to prove that it was not love but politics that drew Cleopatra to Julius Caesar. He sees the Roman occupation of ancient Egypt as similar to the British occupation that was occurring during his time. Caesar understands the importance of good government, and values these things above art and love. Amidst all our dreams and ambitions from cradle to grave is the wanderlust of travel. To see the world, to experience different cultures and new lands. In the modern day a few hours on a plane will take us to an entirely different environment whereas a hundred years ago or more any form of transport would have been far slower paced but getting there was also part of the adventure, the gradual transition from what is known to what is about to be known. This collection of poems takes us across a wide variety of travels and environments both real and in the mind. They summon up descriptions and feelings that are sometimes totally unexpected. Of course when the authors include Wordsworth, Stevenson, Keats and others perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised but allow ourselves to be indulged by their ability. These poems are read for you by Gideon Wagner and Ghizela Rowe

It happened in Japan is a 1923 romantic drama following a group of Western diplomats stationed in Japan during the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th Century. Focused on the main character Pearl, the book gives a great description of how life for a Westerner was in Japan during the period.
The book mixes silly and melodramatic love themes with serious undertones and events. It is a diamond in the rough, available for the first time as an audiobook
