Summary

Stumbling Out the Stable is an irreverent trip down the turbulent backroads of early adulthood. Seamus, a college student with aspirations to hitch hike aimlessly after graduation, grows increasingly unsettled with the vagueness of the future. His friend Jamie, on the other hand, revels in its unpredictability. Together, they party with colorful characters, raise hell at their anarchistic workplace, and wax philosophic about life's hidden glitches. After a series of accidents intersect their lives, the boys stumble to find their footing as it becomes clear that not everything in life can be avoided.

Siren Willows was nine when she first discovered that not only was she not human but mostly likely evil, and when she sang, her song could bring an immediate fiery death to those around her. At sixteen, after holding her songs at bay for years, Siren breaks and sings once again. As it turns out, Siren is part phoenix as well—a long line of mythical beings called to protect their veiled land, Atara, from evil.
Her newfound friends decide to help her discover what other secrets her blood holds. Soon, they realize someone else must have heard Siren's song and is hiring monsters to assassinate her. With two childlike wisps as her guardians, she sets off on a perilous mission, leading Siren and company on an adventure of a lifetime into a hidden world of magic.
Siren never feels more whole than when she sings. If she can't find out what she is before someone discovers her secret abilities—which could wipe out all mythical creatures—it won't only be mysterious strangers she will have to worry about. The very phoenix she has come to care for just might call for her death.

Stone Hawke is precisely the kind of man women are warned about—handsome, intelligent, arrogant, and intricately entangled with some dangerous people. I should stay away, but he manages to strip my soul bare with just a look and dominates my thoughts. Bad decisions are in my past. My life is (mostly) on track, even if it is no longer the one to medical school. I can't allow myself to cave to the fierce pull and ardent attraction I feel toward the youngest Hawke.

Nora Eriksson is off-limits, and not just because she's my brother's employee and sister-in-law. Despite the fact she's stripping at The Hawkeye Club, she has an innocent and pure heart. Normally, the only thing that appeals to me about innocence is the opportunity to taint it. But not when it comes to Nora. I can't expose her to the filth permeating my life. There are too many things I can't control, things completely out of my hands. She doesn't deserve any of it, but the power she holds over me is stronger than any addiction.

The hardest battles we fight are often with ourselves, but only through defeating our own demons can we find true peace.
