Summary

Immerse yourself in an adventure to Kyrgyzstan seen through the eyes of a young Afghan.

This is a memoir written about a time when the author was a graduate student experiencing Kyrgyzstan. It's culture, people, geography and democratic uniqueness. The book also discusses a brief introduction of the country, its geostrategic position, the interest of superpowers (China, Russia and the US) and the regional players (Turkey, India and Kyrgyzstan's neighbors).
Most of the author's experiences were new and different and dealt with through the eyes of a curious, intelligent and, at times, humorous young man. Everything from food to practices such as bride kidnapping and celebration of holidays like Nowruz, are explored.

Providing a travel guide to Kyrgyzstan as well as encompassing all aspects from culture to society, from politics to security and from business environment to tourism, allows the reader to immerse themselves in this adventure.
Available since: 06/24/2020.

Thousands of people attempt to hike the rugged footpath, America’s oldest long-distance trail, each year. Few succeed yet all are changed. After the loss of a dear friend, three young men set out to hike the Appalachian Trail in his honor in 2007. It was a dream - a mission, really- that they all hoped to share. This is their story.

From No. 1 best selling Self-Help, Counselling and Travel author Pearl Howie – the audiobook of her mini-guide to visiting grey whales in Mexico.I used to get extremely burnt out and couldn’t even handle booking a hotel or flight when I did have time off. I thought “Wouldn’t it be awesome if someone would write a guide that gave you one perfect escape; the perfect hotel, spa, flight and restaurant.” So that’s what I did. This guide to San Ignacio and Guerrero Negro gives you the places to stay, (no spa this time, sorry), the ways to see the grey whales up close and personal, and the rest.Despite this being one of my wildest adventures, it is also one of the simplest, because to get there the choice is simple... You either go north, or you go south. There is only one road.I had so many reasons for writing these books - to provide a quick guide for people who think travelling to a special place is beyond them and to enlighten people as to the magic that exists in certain spots, but these are also just simple stories… for dreamers, for those who know their legs will just not carry them to these places, for the unadventurous adventurer, for the person who can't imagine ever going or wanting to go, these stories are just a way of sharing my awareness of a certain place that was important in my journey, however that serves you."You will come away feeling as if she was sharing with you personally and will want to read more of her life adventures.”“I’ve just booked my first holiday in 13 years!”"To me, you are a hero... You have learned to take something negative in your life and make it a positive... a gift to others. It doesn't get any better than that. Don't doubt that you are capable of helping others... in terms of other of life's difficulties... What an adventure!" Susan Jeffers, Ph.D., author of "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway"Not small, just travel size.

Camp Six - The 1933 Everest...

Frank Smythe's Camp Six is one of the greatest Everest accounts ever written. It is the story of the 1933 Everest Expedition, in which Smythe, climbing alone after his partner Eric Shipton had turned back ill, reached a point perhaps higher than any man had done before - and some twenty years before the eventual first ascent. Rope-less, oxygen free and in terrible snow conditions, his climb was one of the greatest endeavours in the history of Everest.
Camp Six is a compelling read: a gripping adventure on the highest mountain in the world and a fascinating window into early mountaineering and Himalayan exploration - including an illuminating colonial view of early travels in Tibet. It is essential reading for all those interested in Everest and in the danger and drama of those early expeditions.
Frank Smythe was one of the leading mountaineers of the twentieth century, an outstanding climber who, in his short life - he died aged forty-nine – was at the centre of high-altitude mountaineering development in its early years. Author of twenty-seven immensely popular books, he was an early example of the climber as celebrity.

A fascinating photographic trip through the site of the last great battle of World War II.   Most Americans are patriotic, their interest in World War Two having been stimulated by such movies as Saving Private Ryan. Hundreds of thousands are the descendants of men who saw service in the Battle of the Bulge. This battle still holds the record for the highest number of American troops engaged in any single pitched battle in the history of the United States Army. Americans of the postwar generations are taking an interest in what their fathers and grandfathers did during the war. Those whose relatives served in the Ardennes often visit Belgium and Luxembourg in an attempt to learn more about those now legendary days of World War Two. This guidebook serves as a memorial to those who served. It will enable those who didn’t to learn something about the hardship endured by a previous generation in the name of freedom.

    Life in a Medieval City

Life in a Medieval City is the classic account of the year 1250 in the city of Troyes, in modern-day France. Acclaimed historians Frances and Joseph Gies focus on a high point of medieval civilization—before war and the Black Death ravaged Europe—providing a fascinating window into the sophistication of a period we too often dismiss as backward.Urban life in the Middle Ages revolved around the home, often a mixed-use dwelling for burghers with a store or workshop on the ground floor and living quarters upstairs. A developed economy, focusing on textiles, farming, and financial services, could be found in the town center, where craftsmen competed for business while adhering to the guilds' codes of conduct. There were schools for the children, though only boys could attend and the lessons were taught in Latin by a priest. The church was a hub of both religious and civic life; services were lively and filled with song, and baptisms and other special occasions brought neighbors together to celebrate. The weddings of wealthier townsfolk were lavish affairs full of song and dance and drinking that could sometimes last for weeks.
