Summary

In a bleak future where government systems are breaking down, and poverty and violence reign, Madison Johnson is about to qualify as a doctor. In order to keep the promise she made to her dying sister, she has spent years of study and backbreaking work, only to have an arrogant alien take over the hospital and decree that she would no longer be allowed to practice medicine. Hassled by the resistance group that's trying to recruit her and exhausted from working impossible hours, Madison struggles to convince the disturbingly sexy alien, who always watches her, to let her be a doctor. As she and Viglar grow closer, Madison worries that she's falling in love with one of the aliens who caused her brother's disappearance—an alien who does not know how to love…

    *Navajo Territory – 1734*
Adam, the mixed child of a Navajo woman and European trader, makes the unsettling discovery that he is not any normal man. When Geoffrey Swenson shows back up to the village, prompted to visit his son for the first time since boyhood, it’s for a more disquieting reason. Adam is coming into his true identity as a werewolf and must leave behind his old ways of life, his traditions, and everything he’s known, to train with his estranged father. But with a new sickness sweeping through the tribes, leaving may prove harder than they ever imagined.
A mistake made in his early years has formed a rift between father and son, but now Geoffrey is Adam’s only hope for mastering his new werewolf abilities. After being abandoned by his own father before his first shift, Geoffrey knows how difficult it is to cope with these changes. But he begins to realize that maybe Adam is the one who can teach him a thing or two about what it means to be a werewolf.

A debut novel of epic fantasy featuring an unlikely hero and his life-changing adventure from the author of the Quests of the Kings Trilogy.   Long after the last of the great heroes of old has died, the Undead King is stirring again, amassing a goblin horde ready to storm out of the mountains and destroy all of humanity. The only thing preventing utter annihilation is Edmund, a stuttering librarian who knows a secret—one that every thief, assassin, and king would kill to have. Fleeing from relentless peril, Edmund wages a solitary battle against an ancient evil. But how can one man succeed when so many before him have failed?   “This unique plot is oozing creativity. You have to give it a read to properly understand why . . . You will not be disappointed, it is an excellent read!” —Only the Indies   “In many ways, Riddle in Stone harkens back to the early days of modern fantasy where the hero is really an everyman confronted with an impossible task and, despite his own innocence, insecurities, and sense of inadequacy, accomplishes that which the great heroes of the time could not. Yet, there are enough differences to give it a fresh feel.” —Maxine McLister

This recording of Peter Newell’s The Slant Book (1910) kicks off voiced renderings by LibriVox of public domain books in the International Children's Digital Library (ICDL).
The ICDL book can be found at: http://www.childrenslibrary.org/.
The Slant Book is literally the shape of a parallelogram, with the spine of the book running down one side. When opened, facing pages form a "V" shape. All the pictures on the slanted recto pages show a way-too-precocious infant in a carriage [the "go-cart" of yesteryear] racing downhill who has somehow gotten away from his nanny, gleefully creating havoc all along the way! The facing verso pages contain two stanzas of commentary on the charming --if alarming!-- illustrations.
This book pioneered the "special format" children's literature of today, such as pop-up books or cutout books like Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Newell books from 80 years ago have been reprinted, since Newell has undergone a resurgence in popularity much as Dr. Seuss's books did during the 1980s. This is a boon for teachers and home-schooling parents, since this recording can now be listened to as youngsters page through a real book (ISBN: 080-480-5326) or as they view the ICDL scanned version online (both are a real treat)!
